I love it. I’ve been going for almost a year now, on the advice of a few close friends as well as a cousin who’s an acupuncturist. I go every week, and then on day of transfer we do straight before transfer and again straight after.
You don’t have to go quite so much - you can also do weekly sessions just during the weeks leading up to treatment…. But I do really enjoy it.
I have no idea whether it ‘makes a difference’ 🤪 plenty are convinced it does. But it helps me relax and feel I’m giving my body the best chance, and that’s already a benefit 🤗
I also am a big fan, it does something for me. Even if it is just lying down for an hour every week or two. I come from a science background and can’t quite work it out but I feel so much better after it!
I’ve been going for about a year now and I really love it. I don’t know how, but I genuinely feel better after it - more relaxed and my cycles were more regular and consistent.
I go every 2-3 weeks, though we sat down when I started my IVF medication and came up with a plan for sessions during the IVF cycle, including an appointment the afternoon of the transfer. I don’t know if it specifically helped with IVF, but I feel more calm and relaxed after appointments and I figure that can’t be a bad thing!
Thanks everyone! It seems you all feel you benefit in some way or another from it. I called the guy at my clinic who does it and he seems really nice.
The only choice I have to make is out clinic is about an hour away from where we live, so do I go for him at the clinic or see if I can research somone a bit closer.
The good thing with him is he does the whole day of transfer thing too, which I like the sound of ! X
I guess it depends how much the travel bothers you…. I think any acupuncturist who specialises in fertility would do the day of transfer appts, but obviously being in the same clinic has its advantages on that occasion and maybe he’d be able to be a bit more flexible with timings too? But I’ve always had days of transfer appts with my private acupuncturist.
I had never had acupuncture until I started my IVF journey. I now swear by it. It has helped me when anxiety has been bad as well as to support with the process! If I’m honest, I am convinced it the reason I had such a high egg count on my first collection as I have very low AMH.
There are many articles that suggest it has a positive impact on IVF.
I also had weekly sessions on the build up to my FET. I found it really good in some ways and really hard in others. I think for the same reason I’m not a big yoga fan I’m too in my head left in quiet for that long.
The lady who did mine didn’t like the idea of doing any treatment on the day of transfer, we talked about it and she clearly had her reasons and understanding so we worked around that.
The FET was a success. I won’t chalk it all up to the acupuncture but I don’t believe it was wasted. Maybe talk to someone closer to home and see what they say/ think about a treatment plan and see whose plan you feel happier with.
Personally it never did anything for me and i felt no relaxing benefits, i prefer massage. It's one of those things you don't know unless you try it. I think the idea is that it provides you some much needed stress relief for what is a very stressful journey. If you try it and you don't enjoy it, then try something else that you think you might enjoy.
Could be a total coincidence but I had acupuncture weekly for our third round and the results were dramatically improved. I had changed some other things too but it may well have been a contributing factor. Like others have said, if nothing else I find it deeply relaxing and beneficial for my well-being xx
