Hi, I started weekly acupuncture sessions after a failed ICSI cycle in January last year (3 eggs from 6 follicles but all three eggs degenerated during the ICSI procedure so none transferred).

Cycle #2 resulted in 4 eggs from 4 follicles, 2 of which fertilised and were transferred back but unfortunately didn't implant.

Cycle #3 resulted in 3 eggs from 4 follicles, 2 fertilised and were transferred back. I'm nearly 7 weeks pregnant! ☺

I also had a shorter session before and after the transfer on both occasions, which is highly recommended.

I found that I didn't suffer with side effects from the meds on the 2nd and 3rd cycles compared to the first. I was also a lot more calmer and more positive, so I'd highly recommend acupuncture. I plan to continue sessions.

Agree at £40 a session it is expensive, but a small price to pay taking into account the self funding fees for each cycle.

Good luck 🍀

It is true and I am very fortunate for my cycles to still be free at the moment and it is a very small price to pay for the outcome it's me as a person very tight in general and bit skeptical after paying out for the scratch last round and it not to work. I just wanted some back up almost to prove to my husband it would be worth it x

Hi, I had weekly acupuncture sessions and also had the two sessions before and after embryo transfer. It made me feel calmer throughout the whole process and I'm now 10 weeks pregnant. As I have low AMH, I was told I was likely to respond poorly to IVF which is why I turned to acupuncture. Hope this helps x

I haven't had assisted conception but tried acupuncture after having tried to conceive for 18 months. After the first full cycle I conceived - am now 8 weeks. It could be a coincidence but I felt like it helped with implantation. Good luck to you X

Hello Lotbot

I had acupuncture during our cycle which resulted in a BFP. I read somewhere that during a trial it increased the likelihood of a cycle working by around 60%! My husband had also had a positive experience of acupuncture after it helped with back pain he had been suffering with for years so I did believe it could have medical benefits.

Obviously there is no way of telling whether the acupuncture played a part in our BFP or not but I like to think it did (it does cost a fortune after all!). At the very least I definitely enjoyed my sessions. They were very relaxing and I often fell asleep which I thought could only be a good thing during what's a very stressful time! I think I also felt that by going for acupuncture I was taking a bit of control of the situation!

I went regularly during our cycle (at least one a week) but the acupuncturist said the most important sessions were the day before and the day of ET so if you wanted to limit the cost I would recommend these two sessions (and probably one before to check you actually enjoy it!).

Lastly, make sure you go to someone reputable and preferably someone who specialises in fertility acupuncture.

Good luck and take care x

I am currently having acupuncture once a week I can highly recommend it. I was skeptical at first but it has made me feel less anxious about life in general and I'm approaching my first egg collection/transfer and aim to have it then. I have never felt so calm, have less palpitations & sleep better. Best wishes to you xx
