Hi Raejay. I'm 44 and 26 weeks. I've been taking a low dose of Aspirin since I had my embryo transfer in May. It's also taken to reduce the risk of miscarriage as it helps the placenta to work properly if the blood is thinner, apparently! It was initially prescribed by my IVF clinic in Cyprus and then the NHS told me to continue throughout the pregnancy. Both me and the baby are doing really well so I have no concerns. Hope you and you little one are doing well. Much love x
Hi Raejay. Low dose soluble aspirin helps to ensure an even blood flow to your womb lining and hopefully prevent any clot formation. Having a thinner blood flow might help to prevent your blood pressure from rising. Just be aware that if you cut yourself, you may bleed longer than usual. Ask your midwife or doctor for a fuller explanation. Hope all progresses well with your pregnancy. Diane
Hi, I was put on aspirin too and I’m now 38 weeks pregnant! I read everywhere you shouldn’t take it and I work in a pharmacy so even some pharmacists were a bit confused by it but I have to say I have had a preeclampsia scare over the past few weeks and I think if I hadn’t taken the aspirin the whole way through I may have suffered sooner! Talk to your midwife and docs to put your mind at rest but I’m glad I’ve taken mine xx
Firstly, congratulations on your pregnancy, it's a very exciting time for you! Regarding asprin, I can only give you my own experience... I had to miscarriages in my 40's.. both times I was advised to take asprin (news to me!) I never had it when I'd had my son.... It does seem to go against "instinct" doesn't it?
Well, with one pregnancy I didn't take it and with the other I did, I still lost the babies, and I'll never know why..
What I'm trying to say is, trust your doctors and midwives, they wouldn't recommend it if it was too risky, you are 26 weeks, more than halfway, and I bet you can't wait to meet your baby, so please just try to relax, take the advice, and see how things go.
Talk to your GP or midwife if you have any concerns, the dose will be so low, I'm sure you'll be fine.
The support on here is great, so keep talking and asking questions if you feel the need, I have only recently joined, but so far everyone has been lovely, and I've found some comfort and strength from this site.
