Low AMH of 3...heartbroken

Hi. So I had my HSG today which went well and tubes were clear. However, I also got the results of my blood tests and my AMH came back as 3 which is really low. I'm devastated and worried for the future now. We are being referred for IVF. Consultant said there is still hope but I'm really not feeling positive right now. Anyone had a low AMH and had successful pregnancy? Im nearly 33 Xx

Hello. Please don’t worry. Back in February this year I was in the same place as you. I was 33, now 34 and was told I had an AMH of 2.3 FSH 14.5 AFC 3. The consultant I had at the time made me feel devastated. To cut a long story short I found a consultant who is great with ladies like us. I am now 18 weeks pregnant from our first ivf icsi cycle. I did short protocol with low dose stims. You are young so your eggs should be good quality!! Stay positive. You can do this ! 🤞🏻xx

I have a friend who's AMH came back as 2. She's 31 and after one round of ICSI she's 12 weeks pregnant with her one and only embryo. Don't lose hope. It's about quality, not quantity.

Thank you. That's good to hear! Do you know if her IVF was NHS funded? Just I read somewhere they didnt always fund it if AMH was low. Hoping age is on my side but struggling to feel positive right now! Xx

I think she went private because she was fed up with nhs waiting lists. Her clinic wanted to do 3 consecutive rounds and bank the embryos because of her amh, but she stood her ground for doing just one round and well, it worked. Good luck whatever you opt for!

It is a real shocker having that news , I remember being so upset when I found out about my low results. I'm sorry you've had this gut punch. One Dr said to me not to worry to much about it as it's mainly useful information to decide on drug protocol once you get to IVF - it, but yes it will likely significantly reduce the chances of spontaneous pregnancy. Lots of women who have IVF with low AMH do become pregnant. Remember it's the whole picture they are looking at... I think sadly funding varies with CCGs I know some women on here who haven't qualified but others like myself who did.

I would say there is hope! If you type low AMH into the search, lots of posts will come up. Lots of ladies need ivf because of their low AMH. I hope you manage to get funding. You have age on your side so your eggs should be of good quality - and ivf is all about quality over quantity - it only takes one. Good luck on your journey xxx

Hi, I too had an AMH level of 3.4. Had my first IVF cycle in February which was funded by the NHS. In my area, they had a timeline of 3 months to start the process from when my referral went into them. There was no issue with whether I'd get funding for low AMH. Upon egg collection, I got 6 eggs which was better than expected and 4 fertilised, 2 made it to blastocysts. I've had one BFN and one chemical pregnancy but they say it's likely due to egg quality, nothing to do with AMH. Fingers crossed for you, lots of low AMH success stories here xxx

Hello. I’ve been exactly where you are - low AMH of 2.2 and I was devastated. But I know now it only takes one egg so don’t worry about it. I’m doing my first ivf ICSI cycle now and I feel so much more positive reading all the amazing stories here. So stay positive and everything will work out. Good luck xx

Hey. Thanks for your message. The low AMH really did come as a shock as I don't really have any family history of this as far as I'm aware. The Consultant reassured me its egg quality, not egg quantity, but having never fallen pregnant in 3 years I am scared as to what my egg quality is like, let alone how many eggs we can retrieve. But I won't give up hope! Still trying naturally in the meantime whilst we wait for IVF. A few weeks have passed with this news and I am slowly getting my head around it and in some ways feel comfort that I know there is a reason to our struggle to conceive and hopefully it can be rectified with a little bit of medical help. The successful stories on here have filled me with hope and positivity. So glad I found this forum. I wish you all the best with your first cycle!! Did you manage to get NHS funding? I'm currently patiently waiting for the funding decision xxx

It’s definitely something difficult to process, for me I didn’t know what AMH even was let alone my results coming back low. Sadly I wasn’t eligible for IVF solely because of the AMH level. This process has taught me a lot and I feel day by day I’m becoming a fertility expert by learning from others here! I think we are all very brave and I’m in awe at how supportive everyone is and on hand with positive words when they are going through so much themselves. They told me straight away I wasn’t eligible due to my low AMH as it is a requisite criteria in my area. Yours sounds different as you have applied so probably take different factors into account. I know others in different areas have been eligible so it’s a bit like postcode lottery! I have my fingers crossed for you x

Thank you! No NHS funding as I live abroad, but ended up going private not sure if I could have gotten government funding. I didn't want to be on a waiting list!

I don't blame you - the NHS is wonderful but does mean waiting. If I had known what I know now, I would have gone private but for the sake of a few more weeks I will want to see if i get funding. So nice to hear it worked out for you xxx
