Polyp diagnosed during IVF... What to do???

I was wondering if anyone had a polyp diagnosed during IVF.

I have just had a scan after being on stims for 7 days and it appears I now have a polyp that is about 1cm.

I had a polyp removed 5 years ago and got pregnant naturally on my next cycle. In all my other scans prior to today, they haven't clearly seen anything other than a small bit which they thought was likely the left overs of the polyp that was previously removed. It is now 1cm which I can only assume has grown rapidly as a result of meds.

Dr has said I can carry on as planned or freeze any possible embryos and transfer when polyp has been removed.

I really don't know what to do. Dr says it will cost £1000-£2000 to remove privately if the NHS won't remove (or I don't want to wait that long). We are self funding so it is a cost we haven't budgeted for?

Has this happened to anyone else and if so, please can you tell me what you did? Apart from polyp issue everything else looks really good so far???

Hi Blu, when I moved to California from London in 2018, I soon found an ivf clinic and we were about to start a new cycle only to find out I also had a polyp. It was probably a result of the aggressive meds I got prescribed in London for my first ivf. I was desperate and scared but my doctor suggested to remove it (via general anesthesia) so that uterus could be 100% clean. In addition she made the operation herself so that she could eliminate other doubts. In fact during the op she also found another little polip next to the cervix and she removed that too. This helped both of us knowing better the shape if my uterus and cervix and to clear out any other possible obstacle to implantation.

It then took my three ivfs (last with DE) but I am now 7 weeks pregnant.

Good luck hun!!

I'm so sorry to hear this as these bumps in the road is the last thing you need throughout a stressful ivf journey. This is what happened to me too on my first cycle of IVF. On my scan they noticed a polyp and I was a poor responder to the drugs anyway so consultant highly recommended to cancel the cycle and not go through egg collection. I had to get polyp removed before starting again. Luckily, as I'm on the access multi-cycle programme, it didn't count as a cycle,so I still had 2 goes after this one. I had paid for the drugs separately which aren't cheap. I have private health insurance through work so I was able to use that to get polyp removal through hysteroscopy. I'm not sure what waiting list is on NHS. My consultant said about 5ish months? After the first bleed after surgery I was able to start ivf again so it's not too long to wait afterwards.

It's good that you have the option to freeze.

All the best with it all xx

Thanks for your response. I think in my heart of hearts the polyp needs to go... Just disappointed with more delays after waiting so long to start treatment in the first place not to mention more money (defo not waiting for NHS). Am back for a scan on Wednesday so will discuss a bit more with Dr.

I had a polyp spotted before collection and was advised to freeze as the polyp could affect pregnancy if the cycle was successful. I had it removed (nothing there when they went in but biopsy taken for bumpy lining) on nhs, managed to get a cancellation around 2 weeks after egg collection then began a fet cycle.
