HCG injections

I have read in a few places that HCG injections may be harmful if one has too many cycles.

As far as I understand the hCG injection is essential to bring the eggs to the correct stage of maturation before egg collection.

Does anyone know what would happen if ICSI or IVF happened without the HCG injections? Is it purely used to get the timing of the egg collection right?

You can have a buserelin trigger instead of the HCG but I’m unsure on success rates with it. The triggers are used to mature the eggs to a point your bodies getting ready to release them, which is why they must be collected within 36 hours of trigger. Hope this helps
