Progesterone injections?

Hi all,

My first IVF cycle (short) failed when I came on my period about 5dp5dt, we started long cycle yesterday and am doing progesterone injections after egg collection. It looks like a HUGE needle has arrived in my box of goodies, it looks terrifying. Has anyone done these and can keep me a bit calmer??

Sorry to hear your first cycle failed!! Good luck for your next one!!

The big needle could be just the mixer needle, is there no smaller ones in there too xx

I’ve got big ones in pink packaging, and big ones in green packaging, then loads of the normal small ones which I’ve started doing the buserelyn with 🙈

Hmmmm I’m sure the big ones are just for mixing and the smaller ones are for injecting

Are you having intra-muscular progesterone? Ie in your butt? If yes, I’m afraid the needles are a bit bigger as the progesterone is in an oil solution.

I had these until I was 12 weeks (currently 20 weeks now). They are literally a pain in the bum and made me so tired and gave me a lumpy bottom but I bled before my OTD date when I was on pessaries. I trained up my husband to do them - we alternated butt cheeks and spent a minute afterwards massaging the spot (we sang a song!)

Good luck xxx

What time of day did you do them?

We’re having a lesson next week and the nurse said my husband should be doing them, I think he’s more concerned than I am!!!

We were told morning. We did them around 6:30 am before my husband went to work. He was pretty nervous to begin with- we practised a few times with an orange. I told him to forget who he was stabbing! He is not usually good with these type of things but he did really well! X

You need to check what type of injections you have been prescribed. I had progesterone injections to do in my stomach and they were small needles like the buserelin ones. But if you've got to do intra-muscular then they might be bigger needles x

I am sorry for your failed IVF. I know it must be a hard time for you. IVF is a good process if a best and professional place is searched for it. Only in rare cases, it might go successfully on the first cycle. IVF is painful and not so successful process. It would be helpful for adults or for people less than 35. Otherwise, it may cause complications. You may choose other options like Surrogacy, IUI etc. Surrogacy is an easy and Simple process. It is neither risky nor the intended parents face any problems. I have seen surrogacy miracles and I would recommend this to every infertile out there. I hope you won't face any trouble regarding this method. I wish you to become a mother soon. Just don't lose hope. Lots of love and prayers from my side. Stay blessed.

Unfortunately my progesterone injection needles were absolutely massive because they were intramuscular so had to go deep! They’re a pain in the arse (literally)...but you’ll hopefully get used to them and it’ll all be worth it in the end! Keeping my fingers crossed for a BFP for you! Good luck xxxx

Hi, so sorry to know that your first IVF cycle failed. But no need to worry if the first didn't work for you it does not mean the second would not work for you. Just stay calm handle the situation patiently. Don't be terrified of the needles as IVF is a lengthy, painful and tiring process but it will work for you. My prayers are with you hoping the second cycle is successful. Takecare all will be fine dear.
