Herpes & IVF - help!

Hello lovely ladies,

An ex-boyfriend gave me herpes 15 years ago. I still shudder to think about it.

The outbreaks have lessened over the years, but now I am doing IVF I am getting constant outbreaks - before egg collection and transfer.

This is incredibly stressful. As if IVF wasn't hard enough...

I normally use Acyclovir when I get an outbreak and the blisters heal in about 24 hours. If I do not take the drugs, it can last two weeks.

My doctor said there haven't been any studies related to Acyclovir and IVF, so he prefers I don't take it. He said the blisters do not impact collection or transfer - it only impacts a live birth.

So now I am suffering from long painful herpes outbreaks, as well as the hormones.

Is anyone in the same situation or has any advice?

Hi Love. I have known patients being treated with such drugs during IVF with no consequences noted. However, you should always be best guided by your specialist/GP. Looks like a sore ride for you, so you deserve some success. Thinking of you. Diane

As if you’re not going through enough! I’m sorry to hear this has happened to you and it is Impacting on your heath now. hopefully they don’t take too long and that you can recover quickly. Xx

Usually of the benefits outweigh the risk in these types of medications (ones they aren't sure of) then you can still take them. Of course you need a professionals advise, but you could ask them to double check as it is significantly impacting your life
