Hope you can help me. I am currently day 7 of stimming in my first IVF round. On day 5 I went into the clinic for bloods and was told they would only ring me if you needed to change the dose of my medication. I never received a phone call and went in for my scan today to be told I should have increased my dose (looks like they forgot to ring 🤬) and due to lack of response the consultant might decide to cancel this cycle. My lining was only 2.7mm they never told me the follicle sizes but I’m guessing it was 5mm ish.
I’m waiting for the clinic to ring but does anyone have any insights? I don’t know if it is better or worse just to cancel and just start all over again??
I’m so upset and frustrated at the clinic.
Any advice is much appreciated!!

Hi there, what dosage are you on and how many follicles did you have at your scan? I always took a pen and paper to my scans and asked them to tell me how many follicles and sizes and the size of my lining so that I could write it all down (yes whilst they were inside scanning me 🙄) for later as it's just so much information to take in at an emotional time and I always forget. As you're only on day 7, couldn't they increase your stims and keep going? I suppose it depends on how many follicles you have. If they do cancel your cycle I would be asking for any cancelled cycle fees to be waived given it was their mistake not notifying you to increase stims. It's so frustrating after what you've gone through and the time. Good luck xx
Thanks for getting back to me! You are a woman after my own heart I also have a notebook and pen I take with me. I had 24+ follicles. The nurse didn’t measure all of them she just said they were a third of the size she would expect, and she expected it to be about 15mm. I was on 150units of menopur as ironically they thought I would over respond. She said she would speak to the consultant and ring me today with the plan. If it is cancelled this cycle won’t count (I’m NHS funded). My lining is so thin so you think it would thicken in time And the follicles grow??
Haha I've found you've got to keep a note so that when you get that burning feeling to check something at 1am, you have all the info 🤣 and can then sleep. Your number of follicles is amazing and if this is your first cycle they were probably concerned how you would react and I suppose the risk of OHSS. They always say the first cycle is a test cycle to try and figure out how you will responde. There are things they can give you to try and help thicken your lining. But it's just whether your follicles can catch up and your linging catches up/plays ball xx
I’m exactly the same, I now have two notebooks that come with me everywhere 🙈. Thank you for taking the time to get back to me. I’m guessing they’ll maybe start me on the higher dose and then review? A part of me is thinking just to throw in the towel and then start again knowing this info.
It’s so frustrating, I was trying so hard to keep my emotions in check when they told me about the missed phone call. I’ll let you know what the doctor says when I get the phone call in the next hour or so.
I bet! Especially with all the extra hormones. Yes keep me updated, will be interesting to see what they say. They may increase and review in 2-3 days and maybe you think at that time what you want to do and whether you are responding better xx
I got the call. Basically, the doctor said I could either stop now or carry on at an increased dose (225) until Tuesday where I would get scanned. The way she was talking this cycle is either getting cancelled today or Tuesday, I don’t think there is any chance I’m getting to egg collection. I’m interested to see how I respond so since it makes no difference I’m going to take the increased dose until Tuesday. Maybe that will inform my next cycle??
Thanks for all your advice and support today @annieannie.
Sounds like a good idea and to test how you respond. Loads will have been learnt from this cycle. Although it would be frustrating to cancel, if you feel it is the right thing to do then do what you need to do. I've learnt you can't really assume anything is certain or will go to plan so the more you find out, the more helpful it is. Good luck for your scan Tuesday. Have your clinic said you can use a hot water bottle? Mine allowed this during stims, its supposed to help with blood supply to the ovaries and light exercise is also supposed to help with this and lining xx
I had my first cycle cancelled about the same time as you on the NHS and they made us pay for the next round of medication because we'd 'used up that part of funding'.... So make sure they don't do that to you!
I will def bear it in mind and make sure thanks! I think because it was cancelled because of their mistake I might have a good case if they did try that??
Thanks for your reply. I hope your donor egg cycle goes more smoothly than your IVF round 🤞🏼🤞🏼. Xx
