Subchronic hematoma

Morning, my 2nd time posting on here. Any one on here had a large bleed with a subchronic hematoma? It's been 2 weeks since I had a bleed at 9wk 6 days pregnant, I am now 11 wk 6 days and I am still spotting brown blood. Has anyone else experienced similar? It did stop for about 5 days but started again and is still on going. Iv noticed strangely that I have the most old blood in a morning then it seems to taper of abit throughout the day. I have a scan today at my local EPU but I'm so worried I'm going to get there and they tell me the babys heart has stopped, iv had such bad anexity over it for the past 2 weeks. X

Hi lovely, fellow IVF girl and I had a SCH as well. It was active from week 5 to week 8 for me, one big fresh red bleed and constant brown stringy spotting until it had all come away, which took the 3 weeks. I was terrified at every EPU scan that the baby wouldn't have a heartbeat but it was fine each time. Did they tell you the size and location of your bleed? Apparently that's what they look at the determine how likely it will be for it to impact on your pregnancy. I have my 12 week scan next Thursday and even though I haven't spotted for a good few weeks now I'm still petrified. I understand how hard it is to relax, especially after IVF! x

Thankyou for your reply you helped to put my mind at ease last time I posted. Iv had brown stringy spotting since 5 week, had a small red bleed at 8 weeks then a large one at 9 weeks. And still now brown spotting. I think in total iv had about 2 weeks throughout that I haven't had any sort of bleeding or spotting it's so exhausting with all the worry. I haven't received my date for my 12 week yet, I was going to try and hold off but my anexity got the better of me so I rang the EPU yesterday. They did measure it but never told me the exact size and it's located just under baby near my cervix. I'm praying that it's just the hemotoma still trying to come away. Still makes you worry tho, you would think you get used to constantly seeing blood and spotting but it never gets and easier. X

You're right, it doesn't! Try and get them to explain the size of the bleed, if it's smaller than 20% of the size of the sac then that's small, if it's between 20-40% of the sac size it's medium and larger than 40% is a big one but they'd be monitoring you if it was that big, with scans every few days. I really hope things calm down soon and you can start to enjoy your pregnancy x

Hello.. I had an SCH that bled everyday from week 6 till 13.. Had 3 big red bleeds, one that lasted 5 days.. Like you, I was terrified but it did eventually stop! I’m now 19 weeks and haven’t bled for 6 weeks, blood clot is in my cervix and has been since at least 16 weeks so there’s a chance I could still bleed but it did not effect Bubs for me.. My EPU nurse told me it was like a bruise that took longer to heal as it’s inside the body and they do not class it as a risk.. Obviously at the time I didn’t believe her but now I’m out the other end, I think she’s right in the fact that they are more common than we would think! Hang in there, it’s absolutely terrifying I know but hopefully your scan will bring some good news and show it’s healing..

Oh and mine was just under baby near my cervix, that I think is a good place as it will just work it’s way out in time.. Good luck xx

Thankyou so much, that's reassuring to hear. I just never thought it would go on for this long, when it stopped I felt so relieved but then it started again and all my worries have come back. Hopefully it will be good news today. X

I have had a similar issue and been told that because it’s still there at 17 weeks (although no bleed for 3 weeks now), that it’s still a risk and not out of the danger zone until about week 20. Were you also told not to travel on flights because of DVT??

Hi I haven't been told not to travel although I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon. On my scan yesterday they saw what they thaught could have been a second sac although the sonogropher said she couldn't tell if that was the bleed too but what she saw had grown since my last scan two weeks ago So I have to be re scanned next week. X

Heeey..

My EPU have always said they are not a risk (which I always struggled to believe!!).. As mine is in the cervix now, it’s nowhere near the baby or placenta so I would say mine is less risky. Although if I did bleed again, I’d go straight to maternity daycare to get it checked.. Where abouts is yours situated?

I never got told about flying and DVT risk.. Is that to do with having the SCH?

I’m taking clexane though so I think my risk would probably be lower anyway? Not sure..

Not sure about the flying I have never been told that, another lady on here had tho. At first they said it was located under baby that was 2 weeks ago, but yesterday they thought they saw a 2nd sac that was empty next to baby, I did have 2 embryos transfered but she said she wasn't sure if it could actually just be a bleed but they don't usually look so black like it did. She was very unsure and even got a second opinion from another sonogropher and she said it also looked like a second sac but this was never mentioned on any of my previous scans (iv had 5 so far)

I have another scan next Thursday so a weeks time x

I don’t have another scan scheduled until 20 weeks now unless I have another bleed. Doc just said they wouldn’t be comfortable with flying in case there is a bleed mid flight. They said mine isn’t big but not insignificant either but didn’t give me exact measurements! I think they are being extra cautious because it hasn’t disappeared yet! Think mine is below the baby as well..

I found out I have one this week after red bleeding. Im only 6+5 and they have said it’s small but I’m scared it will get bigger. I still have brown spotting. I’m so frightened to be honest. It would be nice to just have an easy straightforward pregnancy! I hope your scan today gives you some reassurance x

I know, my pregnancy with my son 8 yrs ago was nothing like this I'm wondering if the ivf process and all the meds has had an effect. He was a natural pregnancy, iv had nothing but constant scares with this one. Im hoping for good news, I hope yours settles soon. I never got told the size of mine Im going to ask. Iv had spotting and bleeding since week 5 I'm Now 11 wk 6 days so it's been going on a while. Doesn't make me feel any better tho, I still panic each time I see if and worried I'm going to have bad news each time I have a scan, this will be my 5th scan, Its very exhausting x

From what I’ve read online it does seem quite common with IVF pregnancies, maybe we just know though and other ladies wouldn’t because they don’t have the early scans. I know what you mean, scans are reassuring but they generate so much anxiety too. I hope things get easier from here xx

Hi Laylaallen, i went through the same situation like yourself. I had 2 very heavy bleeds and was told in a&e they couldn’t do anything about it and that i will have to wait a week before i can get a scan. It was a horrible long wait and also my husband was away for work so i found it even harder. Anyway moving on i had my scan and saw my baby. They told me the hematoma will disappear or will come out. I was told it may have been another sac but not too sure. I had the spotting for quite a while after which was old blood. I was told to take it easy and take plenty of rest. Now im 37 weeks and waiting to have my baby. The hematoma has disappeared. Hope this helps x

Thankyou, that's reassuring to hear. It's strange because on my scan 2 weeks ago there was no mention of there being a second sac but yesterday a different sonogropher spotted it and had to get a second opinion of someone else and they both weren't sure if it was a bleed or a sac. As she said a bleed wouldn't usually look like that. I have another scan in a weeks time to check it again, I just can't wait for the brown spotting to stop iv had it through the hole of my first trimester, it's exhausting x

Hi I’ve had 5 bleeds during my IVF pregnancy. The first was 5 wks which was the heaviest and I thought i was having a miscarriage but all was fine. The last bleed was at 23 wks . I am now 34 wks and.and all is fine with baby. The doctor did say to me that IVF pregnancies are at higher risk of bleeds. I hope it all settles down for you.and all is ok, but I understand how worrying it is . Wishing you all the best.

So scary isn't it, I too thought I was having a misscarriage when I ha dmy biggest bleed at 9 weeks. Iv just come off all my ivf meds as I'm now 12 weeks so hoping that might make a difference too. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy, not too long to go now x

I came off my meds at 12 weeks and I found that quite scary . I’m so glad I’ve not got long left now , however currently they are trying to determine whether I have gestational diabetes, As baby is growing rapidly especially her tummy. All the best 😊

I had an sch with my little girl who is now 8 months old 💕 my bleeds were very heavy at first I had two massive bleeds and bled brown up until around 17 weeks- at my 20 week scan the bleed had completely gone. I have realised how common they Actually are.

Keep rested and drink lots of water xxx

Thankyou for that, that's reassuring to hear. Trying my best to rest and drink lots, luckily Im able to stay at home. My biggest bleed was almost 3 weeks ago an I'm still loosing alot of brown blood every day. The baby was doing great on our scan 2 days ago but it's still so worrying seeing blood everytime you go to the bathroom. I can't wait untill it stops x

I don’t know if your on clexane or any blood thinning medication but my clinic took me off them when I had the big red bleeds xxx

I know it’s scary i felt the same but just keep positive everything will be ok xxx

Thanks for your reply I'm not on any blood thinners, I'm also not on any ivf meds anymore they all stopped at 12 wks. Xx
