Flying/travelling during early pregnancy

HI all,

the joy about my BFP is already shadowed by a lot of issues.

I am supposed to do 4 air travels for work in the next three months and I am really worried about it. \it is only short distance flights, but still I dont want to do anything that does potentially harm the baby.

There is so much different information out, some websites say that you should not fly during the first trimester, some say occasional flying, especially short distance is absolutely fine. I dont know what to think. Does anyone have any advice?

I will reduce it to the minimum and cancel my first travel, which then means I have to tell my boss, but I really want to minimize it. I will also cancel my last trip in early september, which is less important.

I can combine my other two trips and fly from one destination to the other, so I do get rid of another flight, but this means I will be away for 3 weeks in total, which will then fall into the time where you should have your first midwife appointment.

i know I should not plan this, because it is too early and too many things can happen, but i need to, because my first trip will be in 1.5 weeks time.

I would be happy about any advice.

XX

Sarah

Lots of people (me included) have our treatment abroad and then fly home. I don't think you could get any more early than that - we are all fine. Also, some people travel around the world. I myself flew up ams down to London quite a lot throughout my pregnancy. At 39 weeks tomorrow- it hasn't done me any harm.

Like everything you should be aware of the risks, try to check your luggage rather than carry on, take the lift where you can. But please don't worry too much. Your little bean is well protected in there xxx

I always thought that flying pregnancy wasnt a problem and just to keep well hydrated etc. One of my friends has to fly a lot for work and was in her 40's having twins (so classed as high risk pregnancy) and flew loads without any problems. Just be careful when lifting heavy bags or minimise what you take! Oh I see Hidden has just said too but I flew home after embryo transfer, lots of ladies have treatment abroad too and have to fly, its big business! Good luck.xx

I don’t think this is a problem. Make sure you eat and hydrate well (as you’d do at home, or better!). If flights are long, a pair of regular flights socks keeps circulation going (I struggle with cankles any time, but pregnancy made it worse).

I have a gorgeous toddler from an IVF pregnancy (and had OHSS and complications with cysts), and I was both told to not stop flying and I have done. Lost count how many flights I did pregnant, but at least ten round trips. Safe travels!
