Not sure if anyone saw my post the other day but to cut a long story short, my wife and I are doing reciprocal donation. Her eggs. My womb. Ta da!
She had her egg retrieval 2 weeks ago tomorrow and 1 blastocyst was transferred to me last Saturday.
We have our blood test TOMORROW.
I'm just a bit worried because I contacted the clinic and they said come in for bloods between 8-10 then we get a phone call with the result between 4-5. We're not going to be together at this time! In fact I have a full clinic of my own patients and my wife has a theatre list... We work in hospitals 30 miles apart as well. Really worried about taking bad news mid clinic.. So was wondering is there ANY benefit of me doing a 'normal' pregnancy test at home tonight just so I'm more prepared?? Surely the risk of a false positive is different for us because I've only ever had buserelin/oestrogen/progesterone??
Any advice most welcome!

Hey, really good luck! With testing, if you had transfer last Saturday that would only make you 9dpt today - I wouldn't test this evening if I were you because its still quite early and your wee is much more dilute in the evening. You won't get a false positive but could easily get a false negative. If you do want to test at home you'd be best off doing it with your first wee tomorrow morning - it's still a little early but some clinics have 10dpt as official test day so you should get a reasonably reliable result if you use a sensitive test. All the best xx
Hi KOT7 my clinic said it was upto us if we wanted to do our own test too to give us some sort of idea before the official blood test result from the clinic - they said some people just want to wait for the official test from the clinic / others like to have abit of preparation as to what the result might be. The nurse suggested if we did our own test that we just test on the official test date - first thing in the morning. We did this because like you I work in busy NHS environment so had to have the phone call in between patients - so we wanted to have some sort of idea in advance!! Wishing you and your wife the best of luck, xx
Sorry I should have added we did IUI (also used donor sperm due to my hubby having azoospermia) so I’m not sure if the advice would be any different for IVF, we tested at 10days past ovulation.
We did a urine test on the morning of the OTD (10dp5dt) because I didn’t want the nurse to break bad news to us, so fully understand what you feel. I would do it tomorrow morning, first urine, and keep my mind open in case of a negative result. It might be too early!
So I listened to everyone's advice and bought a test for the morning...
But what I also did was.. STUPIDLY bought a 2nd test and just did it now (how impatient is that). It's negative. So now I've just consumed an entire packet of chocolate digestives.
Try not to be too disheartened. Obviously it may still be negative in the monring but if I had tested in the afternoon at 9 days past transfer I don't think I'd have got a positive, mine was quite faint with first wee at 11 days and I'm now 13 weeks. Definitely not hopeless so fingers crosse for you. And don't worry about the buscuits 😉
Just saw your post that your test was negative. I’m so sorry, hopefully it was just too late in the day to get a positive and that’ll change tomorrow🤞.
The clinic calls are completely crap, so far I’ve never been with my OH, but I have been in a cafe, on a train, standing outside a meeting... and you just need to process it and pretend to be ok. Wishing you lots of luck for the call tomorrow xx
