Anyone have unexplained infertility? When you had ivf how did it go? Did they find out what the cause was? Or did you eventually get pregnant naturally?x

Hi lovely, yes I was labelled with unexplained infertility. Although I’ve always been treated with meds for endometriosis since my early teens as I suffered quite bad with my periods. This can only been detected via a surgical procedure, which they didn’t want to do as it doesn’t always resolve the issue.

I’ve just went through my first ivf cycle after nearly 3 years ttc. I fell pregnant on my first go, I’m currently 8 weeks pregnant but it’s still early days. I just wanted to give you some hope as I know the unexplained diagnosis is majorly frustrating.

Wishing you all the best on your journey ❤️ Xx

Hello, I was labelled with unexplained infertility too. Just finished our first round of IVF which was unsuccessful. Being on the NHS means there's not much investigating done. We are now waiting to see a consultant next week, will consider going private once we know more from the NHS. I hope everything works out for you on this journey xx

Hi, I have unexplained infertility, I found it hard to come to terms with, especially when friends and family were falling pregnant around me. Best advice I could give you is not to keep things to yourself and talk about it. Be open and honest, no matter how hard it is. I also found speaking to my partner was a great help. I'm one of the lucky ones as after my first failed ivf I fell pregnant with my 2nd ivf attempt and currently just over 9 weeks. So try and not let it get to you. It can happen with the right medication and support.

Hi there, hope you dont mind me coming in on this chat. Currently waiting for a period to start 2nd go at FET. 1st failed. Unexplained infertility which is so frustrating. All the checks they done with myself & partner all came back great. Got top grade eggs & so hard to deal with wondering why it hasn't worked. Just wondered what your procedure was for your 2nd go? I'm finding it so hard to see how mine will work on 2nd go x

Sorry hear you're first one failed. Ours failed as it didn't get to day 5 we only had a day 3 transfer the first time. Waited for my period after the failed one which was in April and we started again. The clinic I was under tried a differed hormone injection to what I was on the last time, and we managed to get one to day 5 and thankfully it stuck and I'm 11weeks. Xx

in reply to Leanne1402

Oh that's fantastic! I have 5 eggs left in the freezer. All 5 day blastocysts, so I'm really hoping my 2nd go is succesful 🙏 Just have to wait on a period to show up then can get going again x

Both mine were fresh cycles. None of our remaining eggs from both rounds were suitable for freezing. Good luck for you're second round. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Xx

My hubby and I suffered from unexplained infertility for around 4 years. His sperm came back fine, I showed good signs of regularly ovulating, no pcos, no endo, but they did identify that I had a low ovarian reserve for my age.

We went through ivf retrieving 4 eggs. 3 fertilised but only 2 made it to blastocyst stage. My second transfer brought me my beautiful boy.

I didn't find ivf that difficult but the failed transfer was too much for me, I guess I put all my hopes into it working. I would say don't be afraid of it, but think of it as a way of hopefully bringing you your child. Definitely get some fertility counselling too.

18 months after my baby was born, I'm so overjoyed to say I'm expecting again and this one was conceived naturally. I guess ivf reset my body or something!

Good luck!

How lovely, my problem is the cost.. I dont get any on nhs as husband has a daughter so we are we struggling money wise x

Kempton profile image
Kempton in reply to sammejayne

That's hard. We were lucky to have one funded round so I'm just so glad it finally worked and that we don't have anything in the freezer.

Easy for me to say but start saving asap, whatever you can. Cut right back for a while. Do it while you're younger as egg quality is generally better.

I hope you find another way and you get it sorted. Can one of you do a second job maybe? I know how hard it is, i never thought we could afford it, and we dont have to ok from the bank yet either but just hoping as its our only option. X

I’m unexplainable as well... I’ve tried to let it go. Both of our report cards have gold stars on them, which is frustrating, but you have to keep positive and stay in the game. It’s sad to see my husbands eyes month after month of me shaking my head ‘no’, to every test. I think all it needs is luck. So good luck xx

Hey Sammy, yep I'm unexplained. Originally had issues which were stressed related and corrected my cycles naturally when I changed career. We've been 3 years TTC. Nothing found until I went on waiting list here in NI, i'm borderline hypothyroidism though not sure which that is actually causing an issue. However on thyroxine to improve bloods before attempting ICSI. We're fortunate to have finances to cover private attempt because unsure if I'll actually get a funded round. There is no guarantee here in NI even though we're on the waiting list. Turning 40 later this year and the emotions of not having am exact reason it's best to go for it.

Certainly is frustrating.

All the best xx

Initially we were told there was a problem with my husbands sperm but later we were told our infertility was unexplained. In a weird way i was hoping they would find something that they could then go yes that’s why and fix it! Our first round was successful and I’m currently 19 weeks pregnant. Just don’t give up hope and try and relax through it all as much as possible. In a way I went on to think being unexplained at least meant there was nothing majorily wrong that would mean I couldn’t carry a baby so try and think as positively as you can. Good luck with it xx

Hello Sammejayne.

I was diagnosed with Unexplained Infertility and we were trying for over two years. I had an appointment letter through the post to start IVF process on 8th July but we found out we were pregnant naturally on 12th June, it is still early days but it happened and its something that I thought would happen. Please do not give up hope xx

Hi,

I think there will be many people on here with unexplained fertility, myself included. We’ve had all the investigations under the sun! We had our first round of IVF which was unsuccessful and I’m about to start the second. Sadly it is expensive so it’s best to go in with your eyes open, if you choose this option, so that you don’t get yourself into financial difficulty. Good luck x

Hey hun, same here unexplained for 2.5years (although in the meantime I have discovered I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and started taking Levothyroxine, have you had a full Thyroid panel including antibodies tested?)

I fell pregnant with first round of IVF, will be 8 weeks tomorrow.

Unexplained infertility is so frustrating it really is, you almost start hoping that they discover something is wrong so you can label it, I was like this anyway🙈

They haven't discovered anything new through IVF I responded to the treatment well but despite 11 eggs collected, all fertilised, 7 embroys on day 3 only 1 survived till day 5!!

So something is definitely going on with our embroys between day 3 and 5, they just stopped developing. But one fighter is now growing in my tommy 🥰🙏

Wishing you all the best and hopefully you will get your positive soon xxxxx

Hi, I went private for my first round of IVF. It failed unfortunately and they have no idea why.... the story continues!! I’m being as positive as possible for the second round.

The consultant said there’s no real rhyme or reason and to change the meds 2nd time around. Xx

We were unexplained. We had 2 failed cycles and success on our 3rd but they were all fresh cycles as we never had embryos to freeze. I personally know people it’s worked 1st time for. You could try looking at the Access Fertility packages if you are paying - they let you have multiple cycles so there’s a bit of security if your 1st doesn’t work x

I think there's something happening with profile pictures at the moment as I saw two people with the same picture the other day but when I clicked on the profile of the person who had the wrong picture it had their right one but had the other persons when I came out... bit confusing..x

In my case the initial diagnosis of unexplained was finally explained by having karyotyping and finding my husband has a balanced translocation. They usually only test for this if you have 3+ miscarriages but it can also cause problems getting pregnant. Only 1 in 550 people has it though.

Hello,

I’m also unexplained infertility and I felt upset as I was hoping they would find something. I did go to the doctors in between fertility appointments for blood tests and my bloods came back low iron and high prolactin which I took vitamins for. I had my first round March/April with a 5 day blasto and I got a BFP, I’m now 12 weeks. Still have to pinch myself!

Good luck and keep positive 💕🤞🏼 xxx

Hiya! I have unexplained infertility, my cycle is perfect, had a lap and dye to check for endometriosis, nothing wrong there either, my husbands swimmers are great... there was absolutely nothing wrong, I started trying in my late twenties and had no issues with weight. Literally nothing wrong at all. I’m now 13 weeks pregnant. I was told the chances of getting pregnant via IVF was higher for couples with unexplained infertility. You’ll get there, whilst it’s not ideal, don’t delay getting help, don’t put your life on hold either. I hope it all works out for you xxxxx

IVF, I think it was just best for us, we were lucky and got it for free. But a lot of the clinics do pay as you go so you don’t have to cough up the whole cost. I’m already thinking of what to do next time for my 2nd, I won’t be working full time but desperate to use one of the 6 embryos left. So we are already saving

I can't help with first hand experiences, but from what I read IVF PGS NGS might be one of the solutions in case of unexplained infertility. x
