1 or 2 frozen embryo transfer

I had my first ivf treatment which resulted in 13 egg collected of which only 2 fertilised . Due to very high chances of OHHS was told need to have a frozen transfer instead of fresh. Of the two eggs one was frozen at day 3 and graded 2.The other eggs is still left to see what it would be like at day 5,which is tomorrow.

Can I ask for for both to be transferred as part of FET at the same time? Or can the clinic only offer the one transfer. Anyone with similar experience . Am 33years old .

Hey sweetheart,

I’m 35 and was in a very similar situation. We had to wait for FET because of OHSS, we only two embryos left after the five days and neither were great quality so the clinic suggested putting both back in. Even though I was disappointed at the time that we couldn’t go straight to a fresh transfer it all worked out for the best as I’m now 18 weeks pregnant with twins!

Wishing you lots of luck whatever happens 😊💕 xxx

Hi! I am not a specialist, but as far as I am aware, they will very strongly advise to transfer only one as you are too young and it’s the first try. Also, if it’s NHS funded, they will definitely transfer only one.

Anyway, good luck with your journey :)

We have gone private as a long wait for NHS. Can we insist on having both transfers? Who would make the decision the specialist nurse who we seen throughout the process or the embryoglist?

Hi, they strongly advise against it but it’s ultimately your choice. Good luck xxx

I don’t know who makes the medical recommendation but they advise you and it’s your call ultimately. I’d personally go for 2 but keep in mind it only increases your overall chances by 5-10% max, if they are both day 5 blasts. Don’t know what this means for a mixed batch with 3 & 5 day embryos so do ask them.

I think its unlikely that at the age of 33 that they will transfer anymore embryos than 1. We did our NHS cycle at 38 and they were reluctant to transfer anymore than , including very sternly going through all the risks of mulitple pregnancy vs singleton.....pretty much to the stage that I felt a bit bullied as I thought it was my choice being older....they relented and allowed me to transfer the two as they werent top quality - BFN. If you really want two and know the risks of multiple pregnancy (there was a girl on here that transferred 2 and got 4 babies) then ask and see what they say! Ive always transferred 2 where I could but its a personal choice.xx

You can definitely ask them to transfer both but whether they'll do it or not depends on lots of other factors. Usually at 35+, it won't be hard to convince them... but since you're 33 if the indications doesn't suggest that your ferility possibility is real low they'll probably won't do it. It's also a proven fact that twin transfer have more chances...but sometimes there are complications as well... and even detrimental ones. There's also a 60-65% risk of premature delivery if everything else happen to put up with the twin gestation. Due to the OHSS you'll have to freeze the embryo anyway so I don't see a reason personally to bestow on the twin transfer really. However, it's your call in the end but I doubt the clinic will give in to do it. Even with everything else suggesting a possibility for twin transfer and if the clinic is ready to do it make sure that you're checked thoroughly to validate that physically able to continue with twin gestation before going for it. Wish you Good Luck!
