Fluid in tubes

Hopefully not a total spanner in the works but last week at our first IVF appointment ahead of starting next month I had an internal ultrasound and the doctor has said that there is fluid in one of my tubes and that she wants me back in to see the consultant this week.

I've previously had a HSG which was clear and two external ultrasounds which were also clear but have strong symptoms of endometriosis and the consultant for that was pretty certain I have it on my bowel but we had decided to wait until after a round of IVF to have the laparoscopy.

Anyone else have anything similar? What does fluid in tubes mean and how is it treated? I'm so nervous about next week now and really don't want another set back!

This sounds like a hydrosalpinx which is a build up of fluid in the tubes.. did they mention that it could be this? Did they say the shape of your tube was wriggly? Xx

I have done extensive research into this, because one of my tubes is blocked with a hydrosalpinx (sac of liquid). I am actually getting it removed today - yikes!

Liquid in your tubes can wash away the embryo. Every fertility doctor will tell you that IVF success rates are lower with blocked tubes full of liquid.

You should first get the fluid removed (many surgeons recommend the whole Fallopian tube removed so the liquid doesn’t come back and build up) before transfer.

Don’t transfer an embryo when you have fluid in your tubes, because - most likely - you will massively (around 50%) reduce your chances of success.

I know it is yet another issue (that’s how I felt), but make sure you address this before transfer, as you want to give yourself maximum chance of success.

Xx
