I currently have 37 follicles growing, I've got a scan in the morning at the clinic and egg collection due Friday. I've followed all their advice about drinking loads of fluid, I've completely stopped doing phys because I'm knackered but over the last 24 hours I've bloated excessively and I've gained 2.5kg in 2 days... I've always been put as high risk anyway but can you get OHSS prior to egg retrieval and will they still do the retrieval? Or is this all completely normal and I've just got my knickers in a twist!
They ordered me the Busurelin trigger which arrived today as they had only previously ordered the HcG trigger and the plan is to decide tomorrow which one they want me to use ready for Friday. They're undecided whether we're going for a fresh transfer or a freeze all...
I'm going to mention it in the morning but any advice for what is probably going to be a sleepless night will be welcome. Thank you!

I’ve had this and I know how uncomfortable it is. I had this after egg collection and I had 25 eggs collected. The days after my stomach begin to swell like a balloon so they decided to do a freeze all. Although I was gutted, I couldn’t take anymore discomfort. Was given antibiotics to reduce the excess fluid. I had my collection in August then my frozen transfer in November which I was luckily enough to get a BFP on. I’m sure they would still do the collection for you and then see how you are. How would you feel if they decide to freeze all? Xx
I had this before egg collection - I felt absolutely awful & EC came as a massive relief to let my tummy settle. They had to adjust my meds a lot to help it settle down a bit but I was touch and go whether I’d have a fresh or frozen transfer.
I had fresh in the end but it was v hard going as think I was still recovering, dehydrated & knackered after the OHSS. Let the clinic know exactly how your feeling today - good luck hun - I hope it settles for you xxx
I had this pre and post EC. Let them know today where you’re at as you’ll need careful monitoring and they may wish to adjust your doses. My clinic told me once I was showing signs of OHSS pre EC to prepare myself to Freeze all (final decision was taken on EC day but they said it was v unlikely they’d let me do fresh transfer). I was hugely disappointed but it was the right decision as I was really quite poorly with OHSS. There is some evidence that FET can be better in those circs as it allows your body to recover. They did my EC despite OHSS and I got Frosties so felt it was progress even if not as quick as expected. Look after yourself - OHSS really can be v unpleasant. X
I had around 30 folicules and was at risk but have been fine. Just some pain due to the pressure in the ovaries a bit bloated. After egg collection you'll feel better after a couple of days because there will be more room. I would check with the nurse though good luck with EC
I was like that the last few days of stims. Over 20 follicles and all big ones. Abdomen was so tender and bloated
Egg collection went ahead but it was a freeze all cycle. Definitely for the best as could recover and feel 100% again before transfer. Best of luck for Friday hon xxx
I have late onset OHSS and was admitted to hospital for the weekend last Friday.. It’s not nice! I only had 16 eggs collected and wasn’t considered at risk prior to transfer but still managed to get a moderate diagnosis. I’ve been told that this could last a few weeks as it reacts to the HCG in early pregnancy and I think this is why they don’t like to chance it after transfer as the recovery time is longer.
I was told to keep hydrated and try eating high protein little but often.
If your at risk of it getting worse, hopefully they will collect the eggs and do a freeze all.. Best of luck and I hope you feel better soon xxx
I had lots of follicles, they lost count at 50, I didn’t actually go into full OHSS. They suggested in the run up that I would probably have a Frozen cycle but only confirmed this on the day of my egg collection. Their advice was totally opposite to yours, drink to thirst don’t just stick to water, drink isotonic drinks, get plenty of protein too and I read online to stay off your feet. I’m not sure if they will do retrieval if you develop OHSS but with me they bought the collection day forward by two days.
If they freeze you will be disappointed for all of an hour then if you’re anything like me you will appreciate the break. If they do decide FET then it will be for good reason. Frozen and fresh cycles have pretty much the same success rates now so don’t panic.
I’m currently halfway through meds for FET after my collection on 11th January so they won’t keep you waiting about.
