Egg collection tomorrow/OHSS

I have egg collection tomorrow morning at 9am, I’m so excited but so nervous as she I went for my scan on Friday they said because my amh level is so high naturally, I my overstimulate and will have to freeze eggs and do egg transfer in a few months once settled back down. Has anyone experienced OHSS. I am a bit worried as my stomach is so swollen . Xx

I was on the cusp of OHSS on my last round of IVF. Was quite painful after EC but was advised to take the pain relief supplied by the clinic (co-dydramol), drinks LOTS of water and eat high protein foods to help heal the body. All this seemed to help as although they were concerned I didn't actually get OHSS in the end and started to feel better about 3 days after EC.

Hope that helps and good luck! x

Hi Grace30. Hope all has gone well for you today, and you're managing to have a good rest. Make sure you drink plenty of water too. If they have to freeze your embryos, they will be quite safe, waiting for you to recover enough for transfer. Thinking of you. Diane

26 really good healthy eggs taken! But I have OHSS (overstimulating) so we are freezing the embryos. I have to take tablets for 8days to keep my symptoms at bay. I’m in quite a bit of pain. I have to have 3 bleeds before we can implant so probably looking at end of jan. bit of a blow emotionally but they need to put my health first as it can be serious. Have you had it? Xx

Sorry to hear of the delay but your health is most important and FET do have a slightly higher success rate.

I'm curious - how many follicles did they count at the beginning and during your scans? I'm at 13 on each ovary and scared I might be in the same boat. They never tested my AMH so don't know where I am on that measurement. I'm just 7 days into stimms.

Hi! I know it’s just waiting, it’s been a long process as it is. Bet your excited and nervous but try not to worry. I was warned that I may suffer from OHSS coz my amh level was 54.1.

On my first scan I had 15 on left and 16 on right, my second scan I had 21 on right and 18 on left sizes ranging from 11-22mm. I hope this helps but try not to worry as everyone is different. How are you feeling? Good luck ! Xx

Thanks for the insight. I'll see what my next scan is like then and I'll have to ask about AMH since they never took it. I had a scan today and two follicles at 13mm and the others around 7-9mm. Fingers crossed it goes well. Feeling okay - starting to feel a little tender and heavy in the abdomen.

I have my fingers and toes crossed for you! They should of took you amh level at the beginning of IVF. Mine is abnormally high so you will be fine. Xxxx

I had to freeze everything in the summer after they collected 28 eggs. I was on cabergoline tablets for 8 days after (if that's what you're taking and you fancy a chuckle just read the possible side effects, some of them are hilarious!!). I felt really rotten for a week after (did nothing but sleep and watch Downton Abbey box sets) and looked about 6 months pregnant for a couple of weeks but once my body calmed down I was fine... like you said, it's best to put your health first - I know it sounds very over dramatic but the worst case scenario if I had got pregnant and the ohss had really kicked in was death! (I know the chances of that were tiny but still....) I think the hardest thing was coming to terms with the fact that after all that effort I didn't even get the chance to try and be pregnant which was hard... also from 28 eggs we only have 5 2-day old embryos frozen so again that was a lot to take in. PM me if you want to, I know it's tough xxx

My AMH is 31 which is higher than average so they are keeping an eye on me for OHSS too. First scan since ivf drugs started today - 14 follicles on each ovary, follicles up to 15mm at the mo, next scan Wednesday. At least by having so many frozen, by the time your body has recovered you'll be in an awesome healthy place for those embies! X
