Very short periods

Hello ladies,

Does anyone else have periods that are 1 or 2 days long? I’ve had so many scans that can’t find any issues. I was all booked in for a hysteroscopy last year to check lining and didn’t have it as I found out I was pregnant. I was taking some TCM last week to try and lengthen my cycle and the tonics made me feel so unwell that I had to stop taking them. Any experience or advice?

Thanks all

X

Mine are the same. I also have short cycles. I had hysteroscopy to investigate lining as was thin on 1st ivf cycle but all looked normal. Tried various things and nothing worked, including acupuncture and herbal medicine. Currently trying seed cycling to see if will lengthen cycle and increase cycle x

Thanks for the response. Sorry I don’t know what seed cycling is- would you mind explaining? I also feel like I’ve done/ taken everything which has made no difference! X

The idea is that you take seeds at different stages of your cycle to try and balance your hormones. I had random 18 day cycle last month and started it. First month back to 23 day cycle. Don’t know if seeds or just coincidence with month before being blip. Period this month was still 1-2 days although there was no spotting and actual proper flow on day one. It’s supposed to take at least three months to work so will keep doing it. At least tastes ok, unlike the Chinese herbs which were the most foul thing I’d ever tasted 🤮 the link below gives some more info x

Thank you so much for explaining. I will definitely be looking into it. The Chinese herbs I was taking last week tasted absolutely revolting and made me so so unwell!! My nutritionist said that it was an unusual reaction although does happen. Thank you xx

Hi, I’m the same I started clomid 5 months ago month 1 my lining was fine at 8.9 but by month 3 it was getting thinner and thinner to 4.9 and periods only lasting 2-3 days... from month 3-5 I’ve stopped taking it as was having too much of an effect on my lining but since my periods have been the same😫. I’m currently on the waiting list for a laparoscopy and dye test in the next 6 weeks but I’m going to ask for a hysterosocpy too not sure if this can be done at the same time x

I think this may have happened to me too. Clomid is known to do this unfortunately (although I didn’t know it at the time). Not sure mine have been the same since either :-( Yes think will push for a hysteroscopy too although will require another general! Seem to be in and out of hospital all the time these days! X

It’s so strange I was taken off clomid 3 months ago however my periods have never returned to normal.... going to look at ways to thicken lining it hope this will help.... hopefully yours return to normal too 🤞🏻 xx

Hopefully. I’ve been off clomid nearly a year! Just trying everything to try and lengthen my periods x

Taking vitamin E may improve blood flow to the uterine lining and improve endometrial thickness & an l-arginine supplement. May help from what I can find x

Sorry to but in you can have a hysteroscopy & laparoscopy done together. Saves another general anaesthetic. I’ve had 4 surgeries; 1 hysteroscopy on its own July 2015, 1 laparoscopy & dye June 2017, 1 laparoscopy & hysteroscopy March 2018, and 1 laparoscopy July 2018! All the laparoscopys treated my endometriosis which re grew rapidly. Happily I am 28 weeks pregnant. My periods were abnormal with my endometriosis sometimes they’d be long like 7 days & other times they’d start/stop & only last a day or 2. Glad you are having a laparoscopy as it’s the only way to diagnose endometriosis. If you have any questions on it please feel free to ask me xoxo Good luck

Ye my consultant said that I was unlucky to have this side effect.... however once surgery is complete he said he will change my clomid to something else which doesn’t effect the lining.... I keep seeing a lot of people talk about hysterosocopy, hopefully they will do this at the same time if I ask as feels like I’ve been waiting forever already x

I only have 1 or 2 day periods as well, I was wondering if this was normal.

I used to have "proper" 5-7 day periods but since coming off all birth control I now barely have 2 day periods. I've had scans and blood tests and everything else and just been told it's one of those things... due to start our first cycle of ivf in the next week so hopefully it is all fine x

I have short cycles and have endometriosis. You can have symptoms or not with endo. The only way to determine if you have it is via a lapscropy.

Hi there, I didn’t know this thanks. That’s a bit worrying that you can have it without symptoms! X

I don't have many symptoms. Just been getting on with the three day heavy periods. Then i got a dodgey tummy and realised it was day before or day 1 of period. I also used to throw up day 1 aswell. Used to be both ends and sweating and shaking not being able to speak. Id go to bed and get up 2 hours later like nothing happened. Not sure I've heard anyone else have those symptoms but can't be anything else as always day 1.

Its a crap disease with most GPs not having a clue.

I have 1-2 day periods which I’ve been told by the Consultant isn’t an issue because they’re regular. When I had both my egg collections my lining thickened up nicely and had good blood flow so they had no concerns at all. When I tried to do a natural FET it didn’t respond as well so I was put on estrogen patches around day 8 but they’ve said next time they’ll manage it differently. It got there in the end just took time.

hifer in reply toLibsie3103

Thank you for that. Was starting to freak out! Mine are regular as clockwork too. So you starting your third round?

Libsie3103 profile image
Libsie3103 in reply tohifer

Sorry for the delayed reply... Long story! But we will start a 3rd round probably in April, my husband isn't well so we've decided to wait til April rather than do it in March. Last time we did ICSI and got 19 eggs but only 1 fertilised and that was abnormal so trying to decide if we do ICSI again or go back to IVF (there are no male factor issues)... Hope things are going OK for you? xx

Hi is this a new thing or have u always had short periods I know you had a mc not long ago so that could affect periods.

No not a new thing. They got lighter after I came off clomid last year. They barely exist. Not sure what my body does during my period!!

I’ve always had periods that last 1-2 days, been like that all my life and I always considered myself lucky.

I’ve had some tests and a HSG before starting treatment (we have male infertility) and they’ve not found any issues with me.

I don’t think a short period always indicates that something is wrong x

hifer profile image
hifer in reply toKyell2

Thanks a lot for that. That’s great to know. I don’t think it always indicates somethings wrong either. My lining was a bit thin at my last scan so the consultant was a bit worried hence sending me for a hysteroscopy that’s all. Great to know that there are no problems for you. Thanks for the reassurance x

Mine are 2/3 days and that seems to be my normal.
