Poor responder!

Hi

I'm just after any success stories or anything that can make me feel better for 5 mins! I've just had my first Ivf only ended up with 2 follicles. One was blood filled and second had no egg so I'm completely devastated and heartbroken. My Amh is 8.1 where as this time last year it was 18.1..so dropped significantly. Went to an appt with the consultant and he thinks I have a very low ovarian reserves and I have a choice of trying ivf again with my eggs or donor egg (which is a no dur to religious reasons), adopting or getting a puppy!

Has anyone had issues with being a poor responder and then gone on to have a successful ivf???

Hi Sofi1

I am really sorry to read this. Maybe you could get a second opinion from a consultant at a different clinic? Each clinic has their own way of doing things and their own protocols. So it would be worth that. It may be that you just didn't respond well to the way your current clinic run. It's so hard to know what to do right. But it sounds like you are not ready to give up and one round can be so different to the next. I don't know what prep you did for this round either but would suggest that you try to do things that relax you, make sure you have a good balanced diet with a nice amount of exercise. Also look into your supplements - ubiquinol, dhea etc - what would your clinic suggest.

Take time to recover from this round both mentally and physically and when you have found the right clinic for you, have had a good 3 months prep for optimum eggs, try again.

Wishing you all the best xx

Thank you for responding back. It's so good to have some reassurance and support. I'm not ready to give up just yet but at the same time scared of failing again. The clinic have not offered any support or suggested any different supplements. All he said there is nothing you can do to improve the potential egg issue and suggested I get my any retested although I had only done so in Dec/Jan and it was at 8.0.

I've read about both ubiquinol and dhea but is dhea available in the UK?

Thank you xx

It is. If you do a search on the history you will see a few links to where you can get it from. X

Hi lovely, I was in the same situation with our first round of icsi. I also only had 2 follicles and neither fertilised . For my second cycle they wanted to give my eggs one last try and if that didn’t work then it would have been donor eggs for round 3. However they tweaks my medication for the 2 cycle and I managed 6 follicles, 4 fertilised this time, with 2 being a high enough grade to be put back in. I am currently sat with a sleeping 3 month old beautiful girl in my arms.

You still have hope for sure. Could you talk to the doctor about icsi for this round as this should increase your chances. Thinking of you as I understand what your feeling like. If you have any questions just message me, if I can help in anyway xx

Oh wow! That's amazing to hear. Thank you for responding.

It's just such a scary thought to think I will be childless. I always wanted to be a mum. This round would have been an icsi but unfortunately no eggs meant they couldn't even do that.

What dosage of meds were you on and did you do anything different?

All the best to you and your beautiful blessing xx

Thank you. I felt the same when I had our follow up appointment from our failed cycle. No one who hasn’t been through it can understand how it feels. I still get emotional now about what we went through and how very very lucky we have been.

So I took dhea a few months before my cycle began. I was on the highest dose of gonal f, I had menopur but can’t remember the amount and I also had a double trigger shot. If your on nhs you will have to pay for the extra medication as it’s not in the funding but it’s worth it. I would have another chat with your doctor, wishing you all the luck in the world xx
