I had a HyCosy done a week ago. It was way more painful than they said and I expected and afterwards there was some spotting (as predicted).
The weird thing is that yesterday, I started having brown discharge and today I have a red CM consistency discharge that looks like AF, in colour and amount. My period is not due until next week.
What could this be? Could the procedure "induce" period?
I have no pain at all but find this strange...

I was going to suggest maybe it’s bought your period on early when I read that you’re asking the same thing. Perhaps it’s even a little breakthrough bleeding before af. I’m not sure. Sending Diane a pm might be useful xx
I don’t know if it can induce a period. My HyCoSy was quite painful too. Apparently my cervix was pointing the wrong direction so it took a few goes to get in.
I had pink/brown discharge for a week afterwards and then it stopped. It never turned into a period.
I called the GP and she said that if there is no pain, fever or odour, it's fine and it could just be that it triggered my period. It's just weird and a different consistency...
Anyway, like trying to get pregnant was easy, right?
Hi Aefemera, I'm glad your GP has been helpful by reassuring you. My hycosy was one of the most awful experiences, and as you mentioned no one had given me an inkling... I suffered from bleeding and severe bloating for about 10 days after that. I hope the rest of the journey is easier for you xx
Curious to know if this affected your cycle. I’m usually 30-33 day cycle and now on day 40 after my hsg/hycosy. 2 BFN sadly so just thinking the procedure has messed up my cycle, was it the same for you as you also experienced the bleeding and bloating?
Sorry Healthunknown , just came across your comment now.
It didn't mess up my cycle because it was a bit messed up already... I have lo AMH and my periods are a bit all over the place sometimes, specially if I'm stressed.
There is only one issue since then... I bleed when I have sex and GP thinks that during the procedure, there might have been some trauma around my cervix that hasn't healed yet. I've done a swap and cervical test and waiting for results now.
Hope you're feeling OK and everything is sorted soon. Hopefully you will have a BFP!! x
Hey, i know this was 3 years ago but did you get any improvement? I had the hycosy done in August, since then my periods have been horrendous, i now bleed big heavy clots for 10-20 days, had swabs done and everything clear, dr doesnt seem bothered but i am
I don't remember particularly well how things changed or when, but they did. My periods became a bit more reliable (still irregular) and the bleeding after sex eventually stopped. Maybe my cervix and brain needed some rest and it took some time for my body to cope.
I then became pregnant in January 2019 and I'm 16wks now with a new one... I was told I would NEVER have my own babies, my body was old and not able to conceive. Maybe the HyCosy helped...maybe it was diet and quitting my job... maybe luck? 🍀
Just whatever you are trying, don't give up, there is always a way.
I had one under sedation last month, I bled for 2weekd after which started off as spotting but then went into my AF, which was early by 5 days. All perfectly normal to happen apparently xx
I know this is some months since but appreciate people, like myself, may come across this thread when relevant.
Firstly I hope this was all fine for you in the end and ideally you also have had a bfp, fingers crossed.
Just thought sharing my experience could be helpful. I had a trainee in with the male radiologist, poor trainee lad. Having to deal with a worn out 35 year old vagina! I don’t think he could handle it and abandoned after struggling for a minute with the catheter. The senior radiologist then took Over. I’d taken over the counter nurofen beforehand to anticipate it being uncomfortable.
The speculum is no bother, we have to deal with that often in any case.
I have to say the catheter was relatively fuss free, but inflating the balloon was the worst period cramps I’ve ever had. And the ultrasound wand was ok.
Then the fluid injections, again. Quite painful.
As my left tube/ovaries are hidden behind my Bowels and he couldn’t get a clear view we ended up having to have an X-ray to be clear. More fluid injected and this was quite painful.
Afterwards the cramps and tiredness ensued. I couldn’t go to work that same day. I then had terrible bloating for two days, and now 3 days on and after our first ttc experiences blood, old blood, but enough to fill a liner.
No pain and bloating has gone but the after effects continue.
Good news for me, there were no reasons highlighted from this test that may be stopping conception. Fingers crossed we get more good news before too long. X
