FET preparation?

we have an appointment in Jan to discuss our FET (private as we had a successful one in 2016) i saw my GP today and she has kindly said if there are any bloods or investigations i need, she will happily do them for me to save money. I can't remember what, if anything i had prior to my last FET! I know i had lots done prior to my fresh cycle, but hoping not to go through that again. Can anyone give me an idea what i might need done/checked? DianeArnold would you be able to answer this? Xxx

So nice of her to offer! I recently had FET and it was just the one ultrasound at the clinic before transfer, no bloods, although I did have my progesterone checked a week after transfer - if your clinic wants you to do that maybe you could take her up on her offer?

Hi

So lovely to hear of a supportive GP.

Usually FEt requires little testing as most of the bloods and precautionary measures are to make sure both partners are healthy before making your embryos (!)

As it’s now FeT and there’s no risk to the embryo it’s more about making sure you are healthy and as prepared as possible for the transfer.

They usually require a zika/ebola declaration if you have been abroad recently.(including your partner as it can be transmitted while you’re pregnant)

Unless you have been at risk of getting hepatitis you prob don’t need those tests. Similarly with standard std/chlamydia checks.

However it would be good to have things like vitamin deficiencies (iron, folate, vit D, vit b12 etc) checked as these can all impact implantation and pregnancy

and also thyroid testing ! Your tsh should be below 2.5 for best chances of conception and reducing risk of miscarriage.

Unless you have medical conditions like PCOS, autoimmune issues or other conditions you hopefully won’t need blood thinners, high progesterone and steroids etc for treatment. If you have had other issues it’s certainly worth discussing with your clinic in January

Good luck

Hi embiemomma we thought to use as frozen but we decided to go through fresh cycle. I done all test in my GP. U will definitely need to have prolactin and tsh tests done. But is best is u call your clinic what exactly they need and your GP will do it . Xx

Probably just thyroid and possibly progesterone but the latter depends on the clinic. X
