Cramps and spotting after BFP :-( UPDATE

Hi everyone,

I tested positive on Sunday but last night I had some strong lower abdominal cramps and some pinky/brown spotting on my pantyliner. I'm just so scared that something is wrong. I had the same a couple of times during the 2ww but thought that could be implantation. Now I'm not so sure as surely implantation would be done by now (currently 15dp5dt)? The spotting has stopped now but I'm still getting the occasional twinge. I've called my clinic and they said to monitor it and offered a beta-hcg blood test for reassurance, so I'm going to go for that tomorrow (just want to rest today).

I do hope this post doesn't seem insensitive as I know I'm lucky to have got this far. Just feeling so scared and hoping for some positive stories out there. My viability scan isn't until 10th Dec aargh!

Lots of love to you all xx

PS just a quick update as a few people have so kindly been asking - blood test for beta-hcg was fine 🙌 over 5000 which is apparently well within normal range for this stage. As hubby said, "We fight on".

Thank you so much for everyone's reassurance and concern, you have saved my sanity 😘 xx

I think cramps and spotting are fairly common but I know how you feel, I'm panicking over ever little thing! Good luck for your blood test, keeping my fingers crossed for you xx

Thank you, yes the result was fine (over 5000 which is apparently what would be expected at this stage). Still spotting but for now reassured it's ok(ish)! Thanks for thinking of me 😊 xx

That sounds like a great result, hope the spotting stops soon xx

Please take a rest day and try not to overthink everything. I recently read an article which explained this. It mentioned that during the first 12 weeks we have a lot of movement as our body readies itself for the pregnancy. We also have hormones going like crazy. These two can cause the discomfort and the discharge that none of us want to see.

Rest up, focus on the positives, visualise your little bean settling in and just monitor gently the situation. If you start to bleed so much that you are filling a pad in an hour, then get back in touch with the clinic and the epu. I have even seen posts where women have had that and all is fine too. But spotting for sure is actually quite natural.

Big hugs xxx

🤣🤣🤣

I had lots of spotting throughout this pregnancy & it’s so flipping stressful, really feel for you.

I’m glad you called your clinic & they are doing something.

Really rest up & if necessary get signed of work-you & the baby are more important. I got signed off & will return today.

My midwife said as long as you don’t have severe pain with heavy bleeding it isn’t a huge concern. The fact yours is just pink & brown is much more hopeful- with chemical pregnancy it went straight to bright red spotting, which turned into heavy gushing blood soaked my bed sheets with huge blood clots like the size of my fist. Once it started it didn’t stop.

You can have implantation cramps & bleeding up to 12 weeks. It could be the cervix being irritated. Sounds gross ( and sorry( but using back passage might be better as progesterone pessaries can cause spotting.

I hope it eases soon & rest xoxo

Thanks for your understanding Jess. Yes I am thinking of sending the pessaries to the back door as it makes it even harder to know what's going on at the front entrance otherwise! Just so hoping things will settle soon and be ok. Congratulations on passing the 12 week milestone! xx

This might be completely normal for you as for many ladies here on this site and I hope this is only something brief and will go away soon and you can enjoy your pregnancy 💝

...But as for me when I was on my first FET last year from which I have got BFP I started with only pinkish spotting and unnoticed cramps around 5-6wks and I knew it this could not be right...I already have 3.5year old son from fresh IVF and this pregnancy was book like with no spotting bleeding at all hence to me any bleeding was not good sign. Sadly I was right, despite of seeing my baby on scan at 7wks and hearing proper heartbeat it appeared on my 12wks scan that baby stopped growing at 7+1wks which was after the initial scan I had. Ive never bled heavily, but had cramps with one day being badly affecting me but this was only one evening for an hour or so. I’ve been told that I was having missed miscarriage...

My clinic told me however that brownish spotting and no cramps are probably fine and lots women experience this throughout pregnancy. I wish you positive outcome!!!

Sorry to hear that you are stressed out. I haven't had implantation spotting, but I have had cramping **continuously** for over a week now - day and night. Lower abdomen just the same. I called up my clinic last weekend as I was getting worried about the amount of pain and frequency and they assured me that it is completely normal to have a lot of cramping in the early weeks of pregnancy. I asked what to do for pain relief and they said that co-codomal is actually fine. So I've been taking one of those a night to help me to sleep. Having a bath also helps - I was worried about internal temp and started using a thermometer but my body temp has never gone higher than 37C. Hope that helps xx

Thank you that's reassuring to hear. A bath does sound appealing to relieve some of the cramping. I'm really bloated too so generally not feeling that comfortable! Hope your cramps settle soon xx

Oh lovely please try not to be scared! Definitely go for the beta bloods to put your mind at rest. If your spotting is pinky/brown doesn’t that mean it’s old blood? I’m no expert but I think as long as you don’t have bright red heavy flow it’s not too unusual?? x

I had spotting throughout my first trimester. I completely understand how scary it can be. But it’s common and before you know it will be time for your reassurance scan. You did the right thing and booked yourself an beta hcg. I know it’s hard but try your best to stay relaxed. Best of luck and congratulations xx

I think cramping and spotting is fairly normal. If however, the pain becomes severe or the bleeding heavy then that can be a bad sign. I hope you are well rested after today. Good luck for your hcg test tomorrow xx

Hey there, I know it's only normal to get worried at every twinge and drop of blood when you've scored a BFP already. But calm down your nerves the cramps, the twinges and the spotting is very common. When you're pregnant it quite natural for these to happen in an early stage and might even be there all along the gestation... appearing and disappearing infrequently. You really don't need to worry about the spotting as long as it' remains just a few drops to a speck and now that it stopped all together it can be very well considered just the pregnancy symptoms. What does the blood work say? Did you get the results yet? I doubt there'll be anything otherwise but then it's always good to check again or get the beta done to reassure yourself. You need to stay confident, optimistic and happy throughout the pregnancy it's important.
