Low beta (120 @ 14dpt) and bleeding following bfp with first ivf transfer

Looking for anyone with similar experiences (hopefully postive outcomes) for some reassurance and or to prepare myself. Postive home pregnancy tests on 28th Feb at 10dp5dt. Light pink bleeding had started the day before on Monday 27th feb. My clinic said it was probably implantation and not to worry. Bleeding got heavier ( red with clots but still on on wiping) on wednesday 1st which was our otd but i was still testing postive. On thursday morning I had a tiny bit of dark red blood on the pad and more bright red blood and clots on wiping. Friday and yesterday blood still red and some tiny clots but still only on wiping. Yesterday evening blood returned more to pink. This morning there was hardly any and now its red again and small clots but still not heavy and only on wiping. I finally got my clinic to do a beta blood test yesterday (14dp5dt) and result is 120. They have said that's postive but on low side and want to see it doubling at second beta tomorrow. Have continued daily home pregnancy tests and line has got progressively darker but not drastically so and todays line is about the same as yesterdays. I'm going out of my mind one minute reassured that I am still pregnant the next fearing the worse. On thursday we were basically told it was a likely miscarriage and that tests would start to fade and so we grieved as such but since then as our tests continued to be positive and darker so they agreed to do our beta. It's been such a rollercoaster. Anyone with similar experience (especially postive) gratefully appreciated xx

Hi Star, hopefully tomorrow brings positive news for you, fingers crossed. The IVF journey is so difficult, I hope its nots been a chemical pregnancy.

hi, sorry to hear you’ve been going through this 😞 I’ve had experiences with a low beta (both chemical and also gone on to be successful). Unfortunately the only way to really know is to have the second test and see that it’s increasing at the right rate. The first weeks are so tricky as you can bleed (maybe a hematoma) and it be totally ok, or it can be the first signs of miscarriage and you can have high betas and it go on to not work. For now though, you are pregnant and the lower beta and bleeding can be nothing and i have my fingers crossed for you that it works out x

Thank you so much. Yes I was thinking it could be a hematoma. What was your beta when it progressed successfully? Did u have bleeding too? Xx

For my current pregnancy (27 weeks) I was 40 something at 10dp5dt and 76 at 12dp5dt. I then tested at 5 weeks and was over 1000. I had a tiny bit of bleeding at 5.5 weeks but switched from vaginal progesterone pessaries and it stopped. I did see someone on here recently with lots of bleeding who went on to see a heartbeat at 6 weeks so it’s really so variable! Good luck with the blood tests today x

it’s definitely a rollercoaster. My advice would be to stop testing. Comparing the tests isn’t a great idea given the positive line steals due from the control over time. You’re driving yourself crazy. Just try and relax. Some bleeding is very common in early pregnancy. Best of luck it sticks and your beta is better today xxx

Thank you so much. I didnt even think of it stealing dye from control like 🙈 I guess I have to go by the beta now anyway. Just terrified due to the blood that I'm having a loss so I guess the tests have been reassuring me xx

Hi Star congratulations on your BFP but sorry you are experiencing the CP scare. Let us hope and pray it is not a miscarriage. Even with a miscarriage it can still show positive. Keep us updated and praying for you!

Oh that sounds tough. I am 10dp and just had a positive but have been spotting brown for the last couple of days, there is always the worry it will turn red so I bet you have been beside yourself with it.

Just wanted to wish you luck, I did bleed red on my last pregnancy (no cramps) and it was ok so there is hope xx

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and for your good wishes. Congratulations on your bfp. I'm sure your bleed will be implantation. My bleed started pink at 9dpt it turned red on 11dpt and is still red with clots now at 16dpt. I'm a mess and one minute I'm crying my eyes out greiving a loss the next I'm comparing my tests getting darker and being hopefully looking a baby clothes. The nurse this morning told me it's more likely an early loss and now I'm a mess again. I'd rather she didnt tell me that when nothing is certain or clear yet. Hoping I will get blood results this afternoon. All the best with your pregnancy xxx

So I started spotting brown at day 16, 2 days after my positive test, it continued pale to dark brown. At 6 weeks (day 24?) I had a huge gush of blood and then bleeding for a while then it slowed a lot, my cervix was checked and it was closed then I had an agonising weekend to wait for a scan and it was all fine somehow! - I had some clots after the big bleed and continued to spot all colours and small clots until just under 12 weesk! I did not have cramps and usually during loss you do I believe. I totally understand the limbo period where you don't know if you are still actually pregnant or not - it is awful and I don't have advice on how to cope with it, it is just horrid. It is unhelpful of her to say it is likely a loss when she doesn't know but she is probably just trying to prepare you in case. Wishing you so much luck for this next test - you should get an answer either way by now at least! Let us know how you get on, fingers crossed.xx

This is hard but no journey is the same! so fingers crossed :) .. I was spotting on my beta day but got a BFP on the urine test (never in my 3 year journey saw a positive test so was hopeful). Went to do the blood test, then as I was waiting for the call my full blown period came and a few hours later received a phone call saying it was a chemical as the levels were too low. But my bleeding was v heavy though nothing like yours.

Hello Star38,

My beta results were really low to begin with and didn’t double as they’d typically like to see at each blood draw. However I did have a sub chronic haematoma which resolved by 12 weeks. Was a scary time due to previous history of loss. I do now have twin girls who are 5.

sending you so much love and hugs in this rollercoaster of a journey from an old timer in here x

Update: Hcg did more than double at 2nd beta. However I continued to bleed and that night I lost a lot of tissue (likely pregnancy tissue and womb lining) I googled images of miscarriage at 5 weeks 1 day and the images matched with what I lost. 3rd beta confirmed the loss. Still bleeding currently just have to wait to test the hcg out now to make sure no pregnancy tissue remains.
