Testing in the afternoon on OTD?

Hi everyone,

My OTD is Sunday (11dp5dt) and as luck would have it I'm going away today with friends for a girls weekend which was arranged ages ago. I'm planning to test after I get back on sunday afternoon as I want hubby to be there, but worried it might not give an accurate result if I don't use first morning wee. Whatever the result I want to at least have confidence it's the true result so I can process it.

What do people think? I could leave it til monday morning but then if it is negative it's going to be a pretty awful start to the week.

Any thoughts welcome xx

Can you take a sealed container away with you to collect some of your first morning urine? That way you can test with hubby when you get home so you dont have to worry about how dilute your afternoon urine is. I know its not the best having to carry it about with you but hey.....the things we have to do in good old IVF! Ha ha ha xx

Aha I hadn't thought of that. Oh lordy knowing me I'd probably sit on the container and look as though I'd wet myself. Well I suppose I would have! As you say, the things we do for ivf. Will have a think on that one. Thanks dear! xx

Interesting dilemma. If possible, perhaps you could do the test Sun with first wee and cover up the results window? Then you could reveal the result when you’re back home? I’m not sure how long a + stays readable for. You could also test Sun afternoon and if it’s negative, test again Mon morning to be sure. Good luck!! Xx

Hadn't thought of that either! What a creative bunch we are ;-) I think it might feel like I had a bomb in my bag and I would be acting even more crazy. But thanks for the thought. Yes if it's negative on sunday afternoon I expect I will test again monday morning. Just hate uncertainty aargh! Hopefully getting away for the weekend will help to at least calm me down xxx

😆 I suppose it would be complete torture. I’m glad you have something fun to take your mind off things this weekend. Xxx

Hi Kcrochet. I quite like "Foodie's" idea, to wee first thing and cover the test strip, but no doubt you would have to peep. Otherwise wait until Monday morning, beginning of the week or not, it still has to be done. Just concentrate on enjoying your girlie weekend away for now. Diane

Hi Diane, thanks for responding. So you think the result will stay on the test for a few hours? And afternoon testing not a good option? xx

If it helps, my FRER positive test from nearly a year ago is still showing as a positive!!

If you get a sensitive enough test(first response) and it's positive it will show up fine on your OTD, as implantation is likely to have happened a good few days before. Mine showed positive in the afternoon 5dp5dt. Good luck xxxxx

This isn’t always the case- my friend’s was faint on her otd of 13 days post 5dt and the clinic has to get her to test again the next day. Baby was born healthy in July.

A faint line is still a positive

Yes that’s true but the clinic wouldn’t accept it as a sign of a viable pregnancy is more what I suppose I was trying to say, and I wouldn’t describe it as “showing up fine” despite it being first morning urine- it may not have shown up at all on more dilute afternoon urine.

Thanks, yes I think there is a possibility of false negative depending on when implantation happened. Will keep on thinking xx

Aww that's a lovely thought - thanks! xx

Pick up a urine sample pot from a pharmacy and do an early morning wee then save it to test in the afternoon. The lids are pretty good on sample pots but put it in a little bag just in case. Sorted.

That's a good thought too. Hopefully the ideal solution will emerge as I sleep :) xx
