spa - safe?

Hi all,

Probably a very silly question... I’ve just made my treatment plan appointment and I have a spa day booked a few days before. I know that jacuzzis, etc can effect sperm but can it also effect anything with egg production? So close now I don’t want to do anything to mess it up. Probably paranoid, but would rather ask! 😂

I think you’re ok for eggs etc! As long as it’s before you do anything invasive xx

Thank you. It’s crazy how much you think about every little thing!

I went to a spay after I started treatment, I had a massage booked and just informed them that I was on IVF drugs beforehand. Everything went ok and it had no issues with collection from it. I would just let them know if you have already started treatment by the time the spa dates come and enjoy!

FYI - I think it is not something that is recommended after transfer though.

That’s great. It will be about 2 weeks before treatment starts but i just wanted to make sure. Thanks so much xx

I think that they say to avoid raising your body temperature too much, as that can cause uterine contractions, so might affect your plumbing. I was always really cautious and avoided the jacuzzis and saunas. Massages and swimming round a normal pool sound like a fab idea though! Really jealous, could do with a good relax, I may have to book a weekend myself! Hope you have a lovely time!

Thank you. Maybe I’ll just go to the gym, swim and get a massage then. I don’t think it’s worth taking any risks 😊 if you do book, have a fab time xx

I had a spa break book just before egg transfer (total coincidence, I didn’t plan it like that) they advised me not to use the jacuzzi and I told the spa I was having ivf treatment so they gave me a massage that was suitable. Apparently no aromatherapy oils as the skin absorbs them.

Have fun xx

Brilliant. Thank you xx

All the spa avoidance advice is for early pregnancy. If you were going during stimulation then some things might not be suitable. But it sounds like you are going before you even start any treatment? If yes, I would go and enjoy yourself and unwind before the rollercoaster journey :) however it’s a personal decision. If you are on a long day protocol the first injections are to switch your ovaries off so you will have a couple of weeks before anything is done to produce eggs.

Thank you. Yes, I have a look and all I could find was early pregnancy but wanted to check. I’ll have a think and maybe give the clinic a call before we go to make sure xx
