Hello everyone, I wondered how long other’s have waited to get counselling with the IAPT? I’ve been waiting for 5 months now and I’m still no where near the front apparently, don’t know where to turn as I’m struggling so much and things at home have got really bad with my OH. And my best friend is pregnant and I feel so alone and desperate, I’d go private but we’ve spent all our money on the 2 failed cycles.
I haven’t had any counselling but 5 months is a long wait and the fact that you’re no nearer isn’t very good. Maybe your gp could refer you for some type of counselling? xx
So glad you’re back !! Thanks maybe I should try my doctor again he was not a t all understanding before tho I’m thinking about changing doctors to be honest anyway x
I got the first appointment in 10 days then discharged to a group of volunteers: waiting list was of more than 1 year. I would keep pressing your GP for further referrals, or just keep self-referring yourself?
Not sure you can, but my form was pretty simple. If they say you can't just explain how low you feel and how badly you need counselling or just to see someone for 1-2h.
I know that some CCGs offers counselling services where you pay according to your income but mine does not, so I don't have any more information on this. Worth asking your GP (if more informed than mine) or IAPT?
Sorry to hear you are going through such a tough time. I know it is a hassle but have you given your local IAPT service a call and ask to at least have a telephone triage? In my area, the GPs have access to IAPT only for counselling. Some of the local counselling practices offer low cost counselling or you can see a trainee counsellor for free/ reduced price. Your local MIND may be able to signpost you. Xxxx
