After much debating I have decided to go to Greece to have a Hysteroscopy and implantation cuts prior to transferring any blasts I get from this donor cycle.
Hubby is allowed to come off the transplant list temporally to come with me 😊
But to anyone that’s had a procedure abroad did you get health insurance to cover any issues that may happen as I will be under general anaesthetic so just worrying I should maybe get some cover. If anyone could provide any details it would be much appreciated. Only decided to go yesterday and within 24hrs booked flights/hotel/procedure 😂 although think it’s going to be a very brief whistle stop tour! But we’re off to Greece in 2 weeks!
What will I feel like after? Will I feel like having a walk round or will I need to go up bed 😬

When I had my hysteroscopy I was very sore. It was probably like a really intense period ache after, they aren't gentle. I went back to work after though, granted it's a desk job. I'd say it's a deep ache rather than agony? So not sure you'll be up to walking round. Good luck
I had it under general in the UK. I wasn’t too bad all considering pain wise. Did have some bleeding, which the consultant said can stop or carry on to next period, but mine stopped after a couple of days.
We had a follow up appointment with the ivf clinic the next day and they seemed to be quite surprised I was moving around with no issues...
I think I would personally get medical insurance cover for being out there, but I wouldn’t know where to start!!
great news you are off for this treatment . I would get travel insurance which usually has a medical cover with it - it’s always works out Cheaper if you get it for the year then you are covered wherever you go away again. It’s like any insurance you hopefully won’t have to use it but it’s there incase. Can I ask is the procedure for implantation cuts like an endometrial scratch? Or is it different?
Hi London, it’s basically to remove any scar tissue that could cause issues. The implantation cuts are deeper than a scratch here. Excited but nervous 😬xx
I got insurance for this in Athens. I used Medical Travel Shield (they specialise with IVf insurance abroad £41 ish) and it wasnt expensive. I felt a bit groggy on coming round from the GA and I had intense cramps but the nurses ask how I was and I said sore, they gave me pain killers imediately and the pain disappeared quite quickly. Before hand you will probably have lots of pre op stuff, I had to have an electocardiogram, chest xray, blood pressure, answer lots of medical questions etc. I got taken back to the ward after the proceedure and had to eat my lunch see my consultant then I got discharged with my DVD of my OP and xray.....yeyyyy souvineers! Ha ha ha I went off for a walk down at Flisvos Marina and just chilled out in the sun. Didnt feel much after I left the hospital and bleeding was minimal really. I also had to take tablets afterwards but the clinic will keep you right and these are really expensive in the local pharmacies. Im sure you wont have exactly the same experience as me as I had mine done with another clinic but my consultant used to work for Serum so wont be too different I dont think. Oh and the other thing to warn you is when you are in recovery the nurses check you for bleeding and put a pad on you and slip on some pants onto you which is a bit odd....its all quite brisk (seems to be the way out there, just more relaxed) but its the same for everyone and I also saw brand new mums with their new babies....although again this may not be the same for you. Good luck, give me a shout if I can help with anything else!! When do you go?xx
Thank you so much Cinders for all this info! I’ll try and sort it tonight. Sounds like you get a full medical overhaul which I’m glad about really.
I go in a couple of weeks 😬 if you don’t mind me asking at what point in your cycle were you when you had it done and did it delay your next period coming? Xx
I think if I remember correctly then I was around 5 days after a bleed....we planned it so I was on the pill beforehand. As I said I had a tiny bit of spotting afterwards but I had to take estrogen afterwards....cyclacur in Athens so not quite sure if that affected things but I got my period a bit earlier than normal. Oh yes, they definitely check you out well beforehand.xx
