I have been for my first appointment at the hospital today about fertility problems after 2 and a half years of TTC. We have already had blood tests and sperm tests and next is a scan.
I was told that we will have to choose between Liverpool, knuttsford or Shrewsbury for IVF at my next appointment. Can anyone please give us some guidance or recommendations on any of these places please.
Thank you so much in advance x

I am attending Shrewsbury over Liverpool since it is a smaller hospital and wait times are a bit quicker. The nurses and consultants we have seen are wonderful. They've just moved into a brand new fertility unit, but haven't had an appointment in the new building yet as I'm recovering from laparoscopy. If you take a look at their website I found it really helpful. Hope this is useful to you swim xxx
For me, the Hewitt centre (Liverpool) weren’t great. It’s such a busy clinic it’s like a conveyor belt and I had no bloods done at all in my 2 cycles and only one scan. They really aren’t good at dealing with low amh, depends what you are diagnosed as needing help with xxx
I swopped from Liverpool women’s to knutsford and they were amazing. Smaller clinic but I felt like it was much more personal. I had had a bad transfer experience at Liverpool and the refused to use ultrasound guidance for transfer so after my bad experience switched to knutsford (all nhs) and they provided ultrasound guidance as they knew it would put my mind as ease and I’ve never not had it since even at my new clinic (private) it really makes the transfer process much easier. Knutsford was only 15mins away for us too, although if you have an early morning transfer there give a lot of extra tune to get there as work traffic in knusford is a nightmare! Xx
Hi Swim32, I would thoroughly recommend Knutsford. I am mid way through my third cycle with then (mix of NHS and private) and will be having my egg collection there this Wednesday morning (did my trigger shot about an hour ago!! 😬). The staff are incredible! Really friendly, helpful and you know you really matter to them. Good luck with your treatment, wherever you choose xxx
Hi Swim32, thought I would update you from today! The knutsford clinic were amazing! I had a bit of a ‘to do’ after coming round from my EC and passed out/was sick but they cared for me like I was their daughter/sister/best friend. Brilliant news, I had 26 follicles and 24 of them contained eggs! So just waiting on the all important call from the embryologists tomorrow to see if any / how many have taken. Fingers crossed!
I hope you’re getting nearer to making your clinic decision! Xxx
Hi hunny, I’m at Shrewsbury and although our first round didn’t work they have been amazing. We start our next round in Dec and I feel far more relaxed about it all after going through the first round with them and the new facility is lovely x x
Thanks for replying, that's good to know, hope everything goes well with your next round, fingers crossed x
Ive had 2 rounds of ICSI at Liverpool and the staff have been lovely. Sadly both rounds unsuccessful. But i can't really fault them. I just wish that if you have low amh they would advise you of prospects right at the start. Looking back if i knew i only had a 10% chance with my own eggs after my blood tests i would have gone straight to donor and not wasted £15,000. X
At liverpool my consultant told me with my low amh I would basically never get pregnant... so he was quite the opposite! That was nhs treatment, so maybe that was the difference. But I have got pregnant 3 times, they have just always failed around 5-6 weeks. Xx
Hi, I am at Shrewsbury and currently pregnant with my second IVF baby from a second frozen round. They are fab. My first fresh cycle failed and they were so good. I then had a frozen round which worked and now 3 years later used our frozen ones and are pregnant again. This time we went to the new Unit the other side of Shrewsbury but its lovely so modern, fresh and welcoming. Although I did miss the old Unit as that’s where it all began for us!
