Hi everyone.. so I’m new on here and desperately looking for some advice. I’ve just been diagnosed with Endometriosis and we have been told we need to go through ICSI due to partners problems as well. We were told we have to self fund which was pretty crushing to start with and is a struggle to fund. I have read a couple of articles about going abroad for treatment as it’s cheaper. Is there anyone that has done this themselves? I don’t even know which country to start with! I’ve mainly contacted clinics in Spain and Ireland but trying to work out with flights and hotels and extras that aren’t included is proving stressful and not sure if it really is cheaper than staying in England. Can anyone offer advice or their experience please? Getting in a real muddle and don’t know where to turn 😕

Fertility treatment abroad or uk??
Oh, hun, firstly, I'm sorry you're facing this. Then welcome to the board. Ladies here are the hell of support really. I've happened to come across this site so many times but actually joined it some time ago as got my emotions mixed & needed support. I think I've got a long history of infertility treatments. Here's some background. Me – 37. DH – 38. We live in Italy. Started ttc since Jan' 2008. During this time I faced two chemical pregnancies. My Dr put me on Clomid 50 but we ended with another chemical.
Oct-Dec 2010 Fermara 5 and Purgon 75.
Feb & Mar & Apr 2011 IUI #1 & 2 & 3 Purgon 150 & Clomid 100 BFN x3.
IVF #1 Superfact & Puregon 300. 10 eggs retrieved, 8 mature, 6 eggs fertilized, 2 survived. Transferred two low grade morulas on day 5 – BFN.
Donor Egg Cycle. IVF#1 (DE)April 2015. Transferred 1 grade 4AA embryo – BFN. Dr made some changes into treatment protocol. IVF#2 (DE) - transferred 2 blasts. BFP on 6dp5dt.1st Beta 148. 2nd Beta- 315. 7wk 3d ultrasound - 1 heartbeat 138bpm, measuring 7wks 3ds.
My sweet son born via C-section.
I know it's TMI, but half of these treatments were undergone overseas. And as you can see our experiences can't be positive only. I mean when you get bfn this is natural to start blaming someone. But now I know this was only a weak moment. The most important thing is our second successful ET!! I don't have personal experience with ICSI procedure but definitely have a couple of things to share with you. Feel free to pm me. Soon I'm sure you'll get more answers. Stay well. And may I ask you, does your endo bother you? (I mean the symptoms you're experiencing). Best regards,
Andy
Thank you for replying! Sorry you had to go through so much as well! I think I just got to the point I needed to chat with others, feel like I’m alone in it all and it’s all so overwhelming isn’t it.
I have always suffered with awful periods and i was only just diagnosed at 33, the last couple of years it’s started effecting me when I ovulate as well, terrible pain. I’m due to have a laparoscopy in couple of weeks where they’re hoping to get rid of it as much as they can, that’s another thing I’m unsure of how soon after I can go through ivf 😕
It would be great if you could pm with and recommendations regarding clinics or countries to look at. I’m very aware treatment doesn’t work first time for everyone so cost is a major issue for us but wanting to go somewhere good to!
Absolutely! The cost is always a huge factor for the majority. Actually having already paid out of the pocket we were looking for more affordable prices rather than any other issue. Some of the sums are: 1ivf cycle for eur 4,900. 2 cycles for 6,900 (3,450 per cycle). 5 cycles for 9,900 (1,980 per cycle). Besides services offered are pretty atractive.
I also wish you GL with your lapo. Hope it will help with pains. Hugs x
Hi Melody, I’m about to start my first treatment cycle abroad in a matter of days, actually it’s my first IVF cycle full stop. Our reason is due to cost as I don’t qualify for funding due to low ovarian reserve and I figured I could have multiple cycles abroad for the cost of one cycle here.
I haven’t gone into it lightly and have found a lot of helpful information online from other ladies who have done cycles abroad. I’m going to a clinic in Czech Republic and the cost of my treatment is €1150 and I’m doing a mini-IVF protocol which means low stimulation drugs so the cost of my meds have been really cheap too, around £200. I will PM you specifics but what I’ve read clinics in Spain, Greece, Cyprus and Czech Republic are popular and would probably say in terms of cost in that order too with Spain being most expensive xx
