In pain

Hi all,

I had egg collection on Wednesday, I’ve been pretty constipated since which I put down to the rectal pain killer but I’m also in a lot of pain. I don’t know if it’s just the constipation/trapped wind or something I should be taking more serious.

Taken a gentle laxative tonight to try and ease the situation but has anyone struggled post egg collection - my last one wasn’t anywhere near as painful as this?

Thanks in advance

Hello i hope you start to feel better soon, have you taken any pain relief? when i had egg collection i was in extreme pain for 5 days and then it started to get better after 5 days I couldn’t even walk properly. So pain is normal, you should be drinking a lot of fluids and passing out as much as-well. But ring your clinic when you can to ask them for advice, also i have heard constipation is normal because of what types of medication they give you during egg collection. I hope you start to feel better xxxx

Hi Olivia80, after my second egg collection - where they retrieved 22 eggs! I was in a lot of pain. I could barely walk properly and I was in pain when I went to the toilet. On day 5, I had a fresh blastocyst put back in. However, the transfer was quite awkward and painful for me. My left ovary was still huge too. Anyways fast forward to my 7 week scan and it turned out my little embryo had floated into my right tube. I found this strange as all the pain was coming from my left side. I was diagnosed immediately with ectopic pregnancy as my hgc blood levels were over 3000. My point to this is: I wish I had spoken up about getting my fresh embryo back in when I knew my body wasn’t right. I wish they had frozen it too, along with the other 2. Good luck! Xxxxx

Thanks Missy,

I’ve been up every couple of hours over night, in real pain when going to the toilet - like trying to peel when you have a urine infection. Clinic is closed over weekend so just working out whether to call their emergency number or just go to a&e as per the literature

If you are having pain like this then I would phone your emergency out of hours number and ask them for advice. They will probably tell you to come in. Make sure you are drinking at least 3 litres of water every day now. Sorry to say, but it sounds like you have overstimulated like me 😓. Let us know how you get on xxxxxx

How many eggs did you have collected? Pain can be normal, have you tried lactulose? Your clinic will probably tell you this anyway but you need to make sure your drinking plenty and taking Paracetamol regularly. I hope you feel better soon but you do need to tell your clinic about this as they will need to know it's best they check you out so your in best possible condition for them to put the embryo back.xx good luck on your journey.xxx

I had 11 eggs collected, 9 last time, but this pain feels different. Definitely going to get it checked out

Called the clinic, she’s suggested really dosing myself up with painkillers, loads of water, sachets for urine infection (just in case) and make sure I’m going to the toilet regularly 👍🏼

Husband has just done progesterone injection before heading out for drugs and comfort food 😋

Now waiting for the call from embryologist, with cuddles from our two concerned fur babies, to see how many of our 11 fertilised eggs are progressing well 🤞🏽

Thanks for all your help

Hey yes I was in the same situation as u after egg collection but my clinic did put me on pessaries an purne juice to take a glass every morning along with the pessaries. You can also try any gas relief medicine it will help and try to drink sumting hot atlease twice a day. Hope this help you. And Oh I was also told to take panadol once daily for the pain. Best of luck and hope you feel better soon.

Hi 👋🏻 Are you on the progesterone pessaries? They seem to give me the opposite problem, more of an upset stomach but when I told my clinic they said it’s more common to give you constipation. Try some prune juice. It’s horrible but supposed to be effective. Make sure you’re drinking lots of fluids and taking paracetamol. If you’re no better by Monday then perhaps give your clinic a call xx

Hi, I’m on progesterone injections.

Due for embryo transfer on Monday, so hopefully this will disappear by then - I’m loading up with water/painkillers x

I was very unwell after EC. Unfortunately, the more successful the retrieval, the more fluid you have accumulating post collection and the more irritation in your abdomen. I ended up with OHSS so you should def get checked out, don't suffer for days. I elected to have my transfer when I was still ill and perhaps should've waited, they didn't stay put. We have some frozen embies left though. I hope you get the help you need, just render too progesterone is a b**ch for constipation xx
