Hi everyone,

I’m 35 years old and I have low AMH. My partner has a low sperm count. We are getting ready for a round of ivf and I just wanted to get any possible tips to get the best chance possible. Thank you!

hi im afraid I don't know what AMH. is but my advice would be to eat as healthy as possible, cut out caffeine and alcohol and exercise when you can. I do not know if these factors will actually improve your chances or mine but that I have found was that this lifestyle gave me a very good mindset going into IVF and I have found it a wonderful journey so far. I am for transfer today. the very best of luck with it all x

Thank you. AMH is a hormone which indicates how many eggs you may produce and it can be low or high. I hope your transfer went well. I have my fingers crossed for you

Hi Kiri. How low is your AMH? Some ladies have success with adding a DHEA supplement in but you should have your DHEAS +/- testosterone measured before taking it, as if your levels are high-normal DHEA may make things worse. You can get it checked through Medichecks. There is also the usual barage of egg quality supplements - multivits, ubiquinol, omega 3, N-acetylcysteine, alpha lipoic acid, vitamin E, vitamin C. If your clinic haven't tested it, it would be worth checking your vitamin D status as well. If you have not come across it, there is a book called 'It Starts With The Egg', which discusses the different supplements and suggested dosing etc. She also talks about DHEA. There is also a section in the book about what guys can take to improve sperm quality. The sooner you start supplements the better as they take at least 3 months to get working properly, although anything is better than nothing if you are getting close to the round. I can't speak from personal experience that they will definitely lead to a BFP as I am going into my second round after the first failed, but I do feel like I am at least doing something positive in taking supplements. Good luck! xx

I would definitely recommend the advice from purpledoggy. I’ve done 3 cycles, I only took the supplements for the last cycle and I had better egg quality. Remember you need to start the supplements 3-4 months prior to the cycle to give yourself the best chance. Xx

When I had it last tested it was 2.4. I’m now going to get it tested again and no doubt it has dropped over the last year and a half. Thank you for all the tips, wishing you lots of luck x

I had low amh due to my age, 7 and later 5.3 plus we had to do ICSi because of partner's sperm. I have a son and daughter. So as well as eating healthy and exercise I would say mental attitude. Believe it is going to happen. Visualise and be positive plus be determined to do whatever it takes

Julie chang on Facebook has positive tips. My fertility coachbon youtube has a couple of free visualizations

Good luck!!!

Thanks for all the positivity. I will try and stay positive, although it’s hard to do so sometimes. It’s a rollercoaster journey!

Yes of course it's a really hard journey. I felt really down after every failed attempt and with every family member/ friend announced a pregnancy which came so easily to a lot of them. There were times it seemed impossible.

But in the end it happened twice and looking back if only I had known my time would come

Low AMH usually means you won't make tons of eggs on stims. But quality is not quantity. I had a baby naturally with AMH of 0.5 and now pregnant again with AMH of 0.16. I didn't take any supplements only prenatals. I recommend checking your TSH hormone as that sometimes goes hand in hand with low AMH. It should be 2 or less. Good luck. I'm 41 lol so you got time!

Hi Kiri,

Supplement-wise, I take Impryl, cod liver oil (for omega 3's) and Vitamin D (because we're in the UK and most of us could do with a little extra, especially after a year spent mostly indoors 😂😷).

The Impryl is meant to be taken by both men and women and I'd recommend it for both you and your husband. It has some impressive data behind it - a study in women with low ovarian reserve showed that it increased AMH by 40%, and a study of sub-fertile men showed that those taking it were twice as likely to father a child. The nice thing about it is you can also skip a lot of the other antioxidants that people take (like ubiquinol, Vit C, Vit E, etc) because it helps your body produce its own antioxidants.

As others have said, you need to take supplements for 3-4 months before you start to notice a difference. If I had my cycle to do over again, I would have delayed it until I'd been on supplements for 4 months in order to give myself the best chance of success, but I know once you've made it this far it can be difficult to push pause. Best of luck! xx

Hi, my AMH was 2.9 when i was 34. We had my son after 4 rounds of ivf. Definitely read the rebecca fett book. i pretty much did everything she said plus my dr told me to take dhea 75mg and ubiqnol 600mg.I’m now trying for a 2nd baby but have had a few failed rounds so far. But i’m older now at 37 and although i haven’t retested my AMH it is probably below 1 now.

Wishing you the best of luck for IVF. Go for quality over quantity! It only takes 1. x

Thank you. I’ve ordered DHEA and I’ve seen ubiqnol is in some of the vitamin tablets. Wishing you the best of luck too x

in reply tomandp82

What DHEA supplements did you invest in? I've been recommended to take 75mg also for low AMH but it's a mind field out there knowing which are best.

IVF clinic Harley street not the most expensive but another good one for women this morning :I should make you aware that if you are looking into options to try to conceive, our clinical policy is that for women aged 45 and over, treatment is carried out with IVF using donor eggs. The reason for our age cap is that we want to give you the best chance of having a healthy and successful pregnancy, and unfortunately we have never achieved a successful live birth for a patient using her own eggs over the age of 44. As we reach the early 40s, the quality of our eggs takes such a steep decline and most pregnancies unfortunately result in miscarriage, so using a donor egg option we can explore success rates in the 50-55% range, compared with the <1% range using own eggs.

Not what you're looking for?
