2 follicles and a 10cm cyst on my Left Ovary

Hi all,

I am new to this site, in fact this is my first post. I just returned from a doctors visit and I am feeling devastated I don’t even know where to start from. It all started last month with a very heavy period which lasted 12 days. My primary care doctor recommended an ultra sound and the found 3 fibroids all about 3cm, they also found that I have a 10cm cyst on my left ovary and a smaller cyst on my right ovary. My primary care doctor referred me to a fertility specialist since my husband and I have been trying for a year to conceive with no success. The specialist Performed another vaginal altra sound and said due to the size of cyst it had to be removed surgically. He also did some blood work to check my ovarian reserve and found that I have only 2 follicles. He says his fear is I will lose the 2 follicles if he goes ahead with the surgery to remove the cyst. He did some more blood work and we are waiting on the results to see if the number will change. I blanked out as soon as I heard 2 follicles and lossing them so I couldn’t comprehend anything else he said. I couldn’t think straight to ask any questions, I have so many questions now and am hoping I can get some answers before my next appointment with him, he will be performing a diagnostic hysteroscopy on me.

What does all this mean for me? Will I be able to conceive? Is there a chance that I can develop more follicles or is 2 all I will ever have? I am so scared can’t stp crying

Hi welcome to the forum, I'm really sorry that you've had such a rough time. I'm only new myself and I don't know much about the medical side of things but just wanted to wish you the best of luck with your journey x

Thank you

Oh dear what a terrible time for you. Sending you massive hugs. Each month can change and it may be that your cyst are hiding follicles. However there is usually one dominant follicle which goes on to produce your egg. You only need one egg to come along and be fertilised in order to conceive.

There are many things that can be done including a number of cycles to get a batch of eggs to choose the best from. At least with the investigations started you can understand more quickly about why you have been unsuccessful so far.

Wishing you all the best and baby dust xx
