Just about to start ... Any Help Would Be Great

Hi Everyone, this is the very first time I've ever posted on a forum, so here goes.

We about to start our journey via ICSI with CARE Fertility in Nottingham, I'm 37 my husband is 48, we've been trying for 8 years to have a baby, my husband has 'super sperm' so the doctors say but I have POS and had a few other little issues which is all sorted finally and we start on the short protocol in Sept, can anyone give me any advice on things we should be doing exercise etc , food to eat or not eat etc and what to expect when we start. The main one is ... do the injections and suppository really hurt? I've read so many things its all a bit of a whirlwind so I thought it's best to ask other people who's going through or been trough it.

Any help would be amazing x

I just tried to eat healthily- cut down on carbs and have lots of protein for eggs, no caffeine or alcohol. Lots of leafy greens and beetroot or pomegranate juice for a good lining. The needles sting slightly but you get used to it in no time. The pesssaries are easy to do though feel a bit strange at first. Don't worry if you find it falls out- this is where the vegetable fat has melted and the drug should be absorbed in your system after 30 mins. Best of luck xx

Welcome to the forum and best of luck with your journey. I'm sure you'll have been doing most of the right things, healthy diet, exercise, pre-pregnancy vitamins and cutting out alcohol.

There are a couple books that helped me. It starts with an Egg and Get a Life were both really helpful and let you know more about the process.

As well as physical health remember to take care of your mental health. If your clinic offers counselling or even if you take up yoga/meditation just remember to take some headspace for yourself too :)

Hi Ladies, Thank you for taking the time to reply, I really do appreciate it, I've taken all the advise on board (even ordered the books and a yoga DVD) and thanks for the info on the injections and pessaries - that was freaking me out a little.

Mishslade - congrats on your 6 month old and great article.

Thanks again ladies

I had 2 cycles with CARE Fertility Birmingham. It was great and I felt really well looked after, and also felt very informed throughout (really surprised when others ask questions on this forum and clearly haven't had the same level of info from their clinics). I had no problems with the injections at all (although OH was a bit queasy and couldn't watch!) - a bit of stinging and a few tiny bruises sometimes. Short cycle goes really quickly so you don't have to do them for long. Pessaries were no problem at all - slightly messy, but the easiest part of the process! Try to relax and drink plenty of water and get lots of sleep, as the eggs they will collect in September have already started growing. Best of luck for your cycle xx
