Interviews when pregnant.....

Hey Guys, Anyone been doing interviews while pregnant?

I am a bit over 8 weeks today and have been taking a break for IVF and been off for the last 8 months after taking redundancy.

I have an opportunity to see a company that I have wanted to work for, for some time, but I had in my mind said that I was going to take a break from this stressful industry and retrain in September while in my 2nd trimester and then embark on a career change more suitable for a family....

I just feel so anxious about my interview and upcoming antenatal and scans etc trying to figure out how I could negotiate it with a potential new job.....and showing in a few weeks too.

We need the money badly as my redundancy funds are low now....

Anyone been in this position? I know there are a lot of wise people on this forum....

Apologies this is not IVF related...

That's a tough one, you don't have to tell the potential employer you are pregnant and if you do get the job, you should be entitled to maternity pay (if you have a contract with the new employer) Financially it would make sense to be in some form of employment for 15 consecutive weeks in order to get at least statutory maternity allowance...

They would legally have to take into consideration that you are pregnant should you get the job and make the workplace suitable.

I understand the trepidation but if it's something you want to do then I would go for it and see what happens! You have another plan from September anyway so you have options.

If you are finding things too stressful though, you don't have to do anything you don't want to and you will find a way to work everything out that's best for you and the wee bean xx

Aww thanks LittleBlue :)

I may not even get the job - but do you think would have to tell them if I get it straight away or I can wait until a few months down the line to see how I settle in?

Just feel like I don't know how other women seem to be super women - I literally couldn't keep everything going during IVF and deal with redundancy too. I am so blessed to have a BFP and want to do everything to protect that.

Reading some of the stories on here people are able to juggle so much!

Hope you are ok - you are nearly coming to the end of your TWW?

You're welcome lovely.

You don't have to legally tell an employer you are pregnant and your intention to take maternity leave until the 15th week before your baby is due, regardless of where you work. Most women do so after 12 weeks but that would be entirely up to the individual. My sister had a job interview for a nursing role and she was 6 weeks! She got the job and then had to be pretty much signed off sick from 10 weeks due to placenta previa and nearly loosing my niece. (she's a very happy healthy 2 year old now!) Her employer wasn't super happy as you can imagine, but the law is on your side for this.

You've had a tough journey and this is so precious, completely understand. What does your partner think?

I'm trying to distract myself as test day is tomorrow. i think thats' quite early compared to other women on here?! Will be 10dp5dt. Nervous. Heart is pumping out my chest writing this!! Ok, really got to work now. xx

Sounds like the stars may be aligning. Depending on the company policy you may not qualify for their maternity cover.

That said is this an opportunity to be brave and open? Do you feel strong enough to see how the interview goes and perhaps disclose your pregnancy?

I say this as it could lead to some consulting work which could work well for you in the interim?

Someimes there are many more options than we might think and being open can lead to those options becoming a reality.

Go for it and good luck!

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks Elena - well I hope so. I will go in with an open mind - and it seems like a nice company so my partner is definitely encouraging me to go and do a good interview.

I think I will go and see what they say and if I get it I am sure there is a way around it. Baggy tops for a few months! ;)

Hope everything is going well for you whatever stage you are at in your journey :)

And thanks for your good wishes. Waiting to start round 2. Always ride with the unexpected and hiccups. But am getting used to rolling with it :)
