Next steps if third round of Clomid fails...?

Hi everyone

Hope you’re all doing ok.

I have polycystic ovaries and have had two failed rounds of Clomid, will be pregnancy testing next week and if it’s negative we have a meeting with the consultant a couple of days later to discuss other options.

Does anyone have any success (or otherwise!) stories about Clomid for polycystic ovaries (in first three months or longer) or can anyone advise me about options if it’s another negative test? More Clomid/Clomid with different medication/different medication/other treatment...? We are willing to consider any options so would love to hear about people’s experiences.

Many thanks in advance 😃

I had 4 rounds of clomid which never resulted in a pregnancy:but I had undiagnosed endometriosis which was on the back of my uterus not even ivf would’ve worked for me...

I do know ladies who have conceived on clomid 😍

My friend fell twice on clomid and has two boys; both times it was the 5th round and always as she was about to throw the towel in!!

My cousin has a little boy thanks to clomid I’m not sure how long it took her and I didn’t like to ask.

Generally they will give you clomid for no longer than 6 cycles and some might increase your dose after 3 months.

You might not need anymore 🤞🏻 All the best for OTD hope it’s good news 😘 xoxo

Hi Jess. Thanks for replying, it’s always nice to hear success stories about Clomid although obviously everyone’s journies are different. Don’t know if they will suggest changing the dose as my ultrasounds suggest the current dose is actually working well in terms of dominant follicle etc and I’m taking trigger shots at the right time but we’ll see what they say. Just wanted to have some idea of options in my head before we go in to see the consultant and get overwhelmed with all the jargon... My head tends to spin a bit at the clinic! Positive to hear Clomidcan still work on 5th cycle, maybe I just need to be patient! As you say, we may not need any more but we’ll just have to wait and see. Am in self-preservation mode in terms of not letting myself believe there’s any chance of being pregnant but know I’ll still be gutted if the test is negative next week.

How is your endometriosis at the moment? X

It is such a tough journey. There are such highs and lows and nothing in between. I wish I could say something that would make it go but I know there isn’t . So I acknowledge it is a 💩situation for all us to be in. Successful stories are the only thing that keeps me going; there has to be some hope that one day we will have a baby. The longer it goes on the less hope you feel 😢 I get the self preservation. Really hope this is your time ❤️ everything crossed for you.

The only month I fell was when I said to my myself “ I can’t change the outcome. It was decided after ovulation.” Once I accepted that I told myself tried my best but I had no control over what was happening inside my body I felt much calmer.Perhaps it was the combination endo removed and me being less stressed it helped who knows.. I wonder how much stress plays a part. It’s so hard not to stress. Since the miscarriage which is nearly a year ago I’ve stressed much more trying and haven’t fallen. Plus the endo re grew back worse. I’m hoping the surgery will help us have a better chance 🤞🏻

You and me both! Our fertility doctor is so lovely but I’m always so worried he might tell us we can’t have a child ever ☹️ he has much more faith in us having a child than I do!!! 😂

I’m on my period so my endo is pretty bad but my laparoscopy is this Monday!!! 👍My 3rd lap in 13 months crazy the things we do😜 hoping the endo consultant can remove the endo if it’s not too deep 🤞🏻otherwise it’s major bowel surgery really don’t want that 😳 He knows I want a baby so he’ll look if something is preventing us from getting preggers 🙂

Here’s to 2018 being our year we can do this ❤️ xoxo

Are you having 21 day blood tests done? What dose are you currently on? I’ve managed to get pregnant on 50mg and 100mg but sadly they never stuck. I only have my bloods done no scans. The clinic I am with will do them for 6 rounds and then move onto something else. I think for me because of my age it may be ivf but for others I know it’s another tablet. Good luck! X

Hi, thanks for your reply 😃 I have the ultrasound around day 10 each cycle and am given a trigger shot to take at a certain point afterwards and told when I should ovulate. The nurses have told me that it’s very unlikely I wouldn’t ovulate having had the trigger so don’t have bloods done. I’m on 50mg of Clomid and they always seem pleased about how my body is responding to it, so maybe I just need to be more patient. I’m so sorry to hear you’ve had such a tough time 😞 Are you still on Clomid now? I’m 36 so will have to see what they say as to whether they suggest more/different tablets or another sort of treatment. Saw that you’re taking Cyclogest - I am too and have been told to start on the day I should ovulate and carry on until either negative pregnancy test or if it was positive I think you carry on taking it for a while. I think the idea is to thicken the lining of the womb. I’m also taking Inofolic as advised in the hope that it will help. Hope you’re doing ok and thanks again for your message x

I’m on 100mg of Clomid so it may be worth asking them to up it, although I know it increases the risk of multiples. I’ve heard good things about metaformin for PCOS as well.

Thanks I’m doing ok. I’m still taking Clomid at the moment, I need to speak to the clinic again and inform them of my miscarriage but I’m guessing they will say to carry on at the 100mg as I got such a good result on my 21 day bloods. That’s useful to know about the cyclogest too so thanks for that. I’ve not used it yet so will be interesting to see if it helps. I’ll be on my 4th round of Clomid next time around as well.

There’s a PCOS board on health unlocked as well so you could try asking on there as someone there may have some other ideas. X

Yes I’ll talk to them about the dose of Clomid, and I’ve also heard good things about Metformin so will mention that too, thanks. I’m so sorry about your miscarriage, I can’t imagine how hard that is 😞 As you say, it’s good that you got that result on your last bloods at least. I’m using the Cyclogest pessaries which I didn’t love the thought of but they’re really not too bad. Maybe we will be on our fourth rounds of Clomid about the same time then! Do keep in touch about how you’re getting on x

I did 4 rounds of clomid with no success. I've been put through to ivf. I Have PCO too...wish there was a cure. It's difficult but hang in there. You may ovulate in the next cycle, increase in dosage would make a difference. It takes only one ☝️doctors know better.

Sending best wishes xx
