Had my scan today that confirmed polycystic ovaries.

Nurse told me I have polycystic ovaries just got to wait to see if I’m ovulating then book a blood test! She mentioned the doctor wants to try me with clomid! So happy something is being done and investigated! But feel disappointed with my gp that told me I didn’t have it if I didn’t go private I wouldn’t of known and it would have been a lot longer process!

Hey, glad you’re getting some answers! Just looked on your profile and saw you had a few questions about this so thought I’d throw my two pence worth in.

Do you just have the polycystic ovaries rather than the syndrome? A lot of women have polycystic ovaries without ever knowing it - I do and my cycle was always 32 days or thereabouts and I ovulate. No other symptoms like weight gain/hair etc. Have you had your AMH number back? It’ll likely be on the high side.

The main impact it’ll have on your cycle if you do IVF is that they’ll need to be careful they don’t overstimulate you (so they won’t put you on loads of stimulation drugs) as it means you’ll have a lot of eggs maturing with the drugs, which isn’t a bad thing for the process! But if you get overstimulated (and produce LOADS of mature eggs) you may need a frozen embryo transfer rather than fresh to let you body heal for a couple of months. There’s actually some evidence that says this can increase chances.

We have male factor infertility (more severe than yours by the looks of it) plus my polycystic ovaries and had success on our third transfer (second egg collection).

It’s worth reading ‘It starts with the egg’ which has lots of useful info. Good luck! X

Thank you! Yes I have had my amh it is 41 which the clinic said was high. I just have polycystic ovaries not the syndrome but I can’t find a lot of information about it when I search all information seems to be about pcos?x

Yeah same for me, as I say I think loads of women have it without the syndrome and it doesn’t cause them any problems. Only thing I did was try to reduce sugar (unsuccessfully) and I took ubiquinol which is said to improve egg quality. Not sure if that made a difference as on our successful round my husband had a surgical retrieval which would have had a bigger impact.

I’m on inofolic and my husband is on impryl, my clinic advised us to take them, my husband has borderline motilty problems and we are going to give clomid a try but if not we are going to give iui a go! So nice to talk to someone who is going through similar! I don’t no anyone who has been through the process personally! Xxx

Good to hear they are at least trying to solve your issues and look into things! My GP was totally useless too, not sure many even understand what PCOS is to be honest. Best of luck to you xx

My GP was the same. I didn’t really have typical symptoms but bloods came back borderline and then scan confirmed it so was a bit annoyed with them x

I have PCOS too. Inositol was great for regulating the length of my period. I read "it begins with the egg" and the healthy diet info was great. I got my BMI down to normal range. My hormones were better able to regulate themselves then.

My advice is to get physical checks done too to make sure your fallopian tubes are not blocked. It appeared to me like they saw the first problem and threw drugs like clomid at me and didn't bother to check anything else. Clomid is no good if the egg and sperm cannot meet. Hopefully you don't have any issues but def worth pushing them to check u physically too. I wasted a year back and forth with blood tests on NHS. I cud barely walk at the end of 6months on clomid. I went for private investigations and it turns out I had endometriosis, completely blocked tubes and luteal phase defect. Not once was any of that mentioned by NHS gynae. I felt very let down by her. I was glad I went private for investigations and got answers (despite the costs).

Wishing you the very best on your journey 🍀

I don’t have pcos only pco, my tubes are fine I’m within the bmi for my weight , my gp wasn’t helpful so I went private straight away. I think everyone’s journey is different good luck to you to
