I've only discovered this forum this morning and I'm really glad to have found others who have gone on this journey. We started on the short cycle last week and did the first morning injection today. I'm rather frightened of needles, but have been getting better each day. I'm rather anxious about our egg collection on the 3rd of July due to the anaesthetic and wondered if anyone could give me some advice on exactly what happens regarding needles, consciousness and awareness during it.
Thank you so much.

Welcome to the forum, you’ll definitely get lots of support from here. For both my EC I had sedation so was aware I was in the room but looking back I don’t remember much. My left ovary sits quite high so that side was more uncomfortable and they gave me gas and air, they won’t allow you to stay in pain/feel anything where possibly. I know it’s all daunting especially if your already scared of needles but it is over really quickly xx
Hi Helen,
I can only share my experience of egg collection as everyone is different.
Pre-egg collection I felt bloated and sluggish with all the drugs. You have to take it very easy.
I found egg collection no problem at all. They knocked me out and then I woke up and asked the nurse when they were starting! So I wasn't aware anything went on at all. I didn't need any painkillers afterwards - I think they give you some during the procedure, but I didn't need a top-up.
I just took it easy for a few days after and waited for fresh transfer.
If I had my time around again I would have waited for a few cycles and done a frozen transfer.
The TWW was the hardest bit for me - not the drugs or procedures.
I too have always been completed knocked out for egg collection and transfer, and I’ve never had any recollection of anything, just waking up in the bed! I would agree the 2ww is definitely the hardest bit!
Hi! I had egg collection on Friday, I was sedated although I was aware of what things were going on I wasn’t in any pain. I just meditated, listening to my breathing before the procedure to try and relax myself. Good luck xx
For my EC I had something called conscious sedation which meant I was awake throughout the procedure. My clinic have since done away with this method (got to admit I wasn’t looking forward to being awake throughout it again) but even if you are awake (seems uncommon) then you’ll get through it! I did lol. Good luck for your cycle xx ps I second being bloated and sluggish prior to EC. It’s not painful at all, just uncomfortable X
I was completely knocked out, don't remember a thing. They walked me down to the theatre, which is pretty scary as there were bright lights and lots of people, then i lay down and they put a canular in the back of my hand, but chatted away to distract me. They put a oxygen mask over my mouth and nose, then I remember feeling the anaesthetic going into my hand and arm and a drowsy feeling, then the next thing I remember i woke up tucked up all comfy in a dark rest room. When I was awake enough they said how many eggs were collected, then I was wheeled back to private room with hubby to have a rest. The second time I had it done I was much more relaxed knowing what was coming xx
