Next step.....ICSI

Hi All,

Thank you for your comments on my last (very angry) post. Both made it to our appointment & although a little hungover, lovely man resumed & it was fine. Very tired girlfriend felt a little guilty at the public boyfriend bashing but that’s how I felt last night.

We got good news & bad news today.

The good news was that they think we can use my eggs & his sperm & be successful, she thinks our problem is at the fertilisation stage.

however the bad news is we are going to need to find £11,000 to do it, no NHS help whatsoever so now we’re a little stuck! We don’t have that kind of money, how does anyone do this??

It’s so unfair that us getting to have a family comes down to money!

£11,000!!!!! Why do much? I had the costings for my clinic, although we didn't have to pay and it was about £5000-£6000! My husband has a son from a previous (although we were told he can't conceive without help 🤪) and some nurse said we might have to pay, even though we were told we wouldn't. On our ccg it says as long as the child doesn't reside with you..which he doesn't. Is yours definitely, no children whatsoever? It makes you feel tempted to lie or say actually the kid isn't his!! I can't believe it's so much!!! Xx

That’s for 2 tries on a refund programme where if you don’t end up with a baby, not just get pregnant, they give you a refund. We could do one try at £6000 but that’s literally one go & no refund if

It doesn’t work.

Where abouts are you? Where we are in Kent that’s their guidelines, it’s so unfair - talk about postcode lottery!! My stepson lives in Australia so definitely doesn’t reside with us but apparently that makes no difference although now they’ve said we wouldn’t qualify for NHS funding because my AMH levels were so low 🙄 they definitely don’t make it easy for us do they!! Xx

It's just so cruel, where is your fair chance to have a child! I'm in Plymouth, so we get one go which I am grateful for! I think the refund option is a good idea, but I expect you need to still find the money! So hard! Good luck, I hope something good comes your way soon xx

Wow, that’s a lot of money! You should definitely shop around. Lots of clinics have very different price structures.

I’m pleased that you and your bf have sorted last night out. Don’t feel bad, sometimes we all want to kill them, and I’d have felt the same x

Haha thank you, He definitely wasn’t my favourite person last night.

It cost us £200 today just for the consultation but I will have a look & see what other clinics offer xx

What?! Have you thought of going abroad?

We are considering Greece if our frozen cycle doesn't work.

A LOT cheaper than 11k!!

I know it’s crazy isn’t it!

We have talked about going to Greece as I know someone who did this & she now has twins but my boyfriend wasn’t sure about them putting me under to do the egg retrieval over there & he said what if there were problems it wouldn’t be so easy to get help & what about the costs of actually going to Greece? It’s a minefield isn’t it!!! Xx

Yes we are having these conversations too. Had a consultation with a Greek clinic in London that was recommended to us. We were really impressed.

It is scary getting treatment somewhere other than home - but your european health card covers you for any hospital treatment in case anything went wrong.

To be honest we are not considering Greece cos it is cheap - they seem to have advanced IVF for some reason...

So hard to know!!!

Our clinic is on our road in London but rubbish....otherwise we would pay to go there.

It’s really difficult isn’t it!

What clinic is that? I was just looking at the abcIVF Clinic on Harley street in London, hopefully that’s not the one near you?? Xx

in reply toCBOO1

Ah no we are in Hackney.

Harley street sounds better! ;)

Reading it I’m not sure if they do the drugs option I need before the actual treatment. I need to call them!

What clinic in Greece are you considering? I’ve looked at New Life xx
