IUI / IVF ?

Ok so I’ve been to see my consultant today and let’s start with the good news, all my tubes are clear and bloods came back normal! So no problems my end, well apart from the PCSO. So the question we were asked was to go IUI or straight to IVF. What’s people’s experiences? Now the bad news!! We have had to cancel our honeymoon because of Zika risk, as it would delay any treatment by 10 months. We are gutted as it’s a dream holiday but after coming this far I’m not prepared to lose 10months, we both agree. So holiday searching tonight for that special honeymoon in Europe now! Xx

Hey there,

At my age (37) they recommended we go straight to IVF, rather than IUI. As sometimes IUI can delay things as it had a small chance per month of working. But I am sure people have success stories on here!!

We are the same - nothing showed up in any tests. Egg and sperm seem ok!

We just had one failed fresh IVF and waiting for round 2! I was glad we went straight to IVF.

Best of Luck!

Best of Luck!! :)

My clinic only delay you by one month if visiting a zika zone, and I’ve seen many clinics say 3 months, but I’ve never heard 10??

Santorini looks divine if you sick to Europe and if you haven’t already been, I’m dying to go! Would be worth splashing out on a posh suite on Oia for a honeymoon xx

Our problem is we were not going until end of oct this year and I just feel it’s a while to wait after we come back and start! We have been lucky to have only lost the deposit, so are planning a lovely treat! When though I don’t know, as I’m worried now we might get the ball rilling in the next month or so xxx

We opted to go straight to IVF. I was 36 soon to be 37 so was keen to go ahead. It’s a personal choice- IVF is pretty full on. I didn’t realise how much until I started but am glad that we did it this way.

Sorry to hear about your honeymoon. Do you have to stay in Europe? We did an amazing trip from Calgary to Vancouver in western Canada last year. Currently, I’m in Croatia and I can highly recommend Dubrovnik or the Elaphiti islands. It gets super hot in the summer though. Good luck xx

Your situation sounds similar to ours - 37 and unexplained. We also had 1 failed IVF and waiting for a frozen cycle - encouraging that it worked for you :)

Good luck! I had an endometrial scratch this time ( I see you are going for this too) , embryo glue and progesterone injections. Fingers crossed for you too xxx

in reply to

Yes I had scratch last time too!

I will ask them about embryo glue!

Thanks xxx

Thank you, I think IVF is the best way to go from talking to people and listening to advice ! A honeymoon is nothing to compare with the journey we are on so like you say we just have to be patient, thank you xx

I’m the same age so I was the same we just wanted to see what people’s thoughts were and things! It sounds very full on and the injection word just made me flinch, even though my pain threshold is pretty high, it’s everything else that comes with it!! They suggest Europe but we are open to looking. I do love the sun, and feel like we deserve a honeymoon, but like I said earlier we are worried we will get called for things in the next few weeks, so now worried to book anything. Thank you xxx

The injections really aren’t that bad and there are lots of tips on here for when the time comes. Whatever you decide, you will have loads of support here. Xx

Here are been a great support! It’s just one of those things we will have to go through!! Thank you xxx

How old are you? The research suggests more chance of a live birth if you go straight to ivf after 35. If under 35 then iui is much less stressful on your body I hear.

We honeymooned on the amalfi coast in Italy and had a wonderful time. Stayed in posh hotels in positano and ravello and the service was amazing. Not sure if it would be sunny enough for you in Oct though.

I’m 35 now, I think IVF is the best road to go down, from listening to you lovely people. We are now looking to go in aug, so the sun will be shining during that month I’m sure! We will find something I’m sure! This journey whatever stage, certainly changes things when you least expect, thank you xx

We had 3 failed rounds of IUI. So we have moved onto IVF. I found it quit traumatic going though IUI. I wished we hadn’t tried it but I always said I would try anything. My friend had IUI and got pregnant first time x
