Big cycle set back - fluid trapped in Fallopian tube 😭😭😭

So went in for my scan scan today, feeling fairly relaxed after a positive first follicle check up scan just on Friday, and it went down hill rapidly!

She spotted that one of my Fallopian tubes looked inflamed randomly, so went and got the consultant. Even though all referral tests showed nice and clear tubes, They reckon (as of today!) i may have a slightly narrow entrance on one side which is pretty common and wouldn’t normally be a problem for conception under normal circumstances, HOWEVER with all the extra fluid the meds creates, The tube has expanded causing the liquid to get trapped. Apparently the only step now is to remove the tube (keeping the ovary) - they were pretty blaaze about this as they kept saying Fallopian tubes are required at all for IVF, but still - WTF!! I’ve gone in with a completely clean bill of health, and came out just 8 days later needing an additional op!! Like this IVF malarkey wasn’t stressful enough! 😭😭😭 they want to continue the cycle as follicles are still responding and so will freeze all eggs rather than transfer a fresh (they worry implantation would be affected by liquid currently in my system) , till after the op and body is under less strain, in around 3 months time.

I’m floored. I knew it was going too smoothly 😔😔😔 anyone else experience any random set backs like this at all?

Hia, yes I had something similar. I had an op prior to starting Ivf to put a clip on one of my tubes that had fluid in. The other tube was fine at the time. I then started ivf and everything was fine until egg collection when the nurse thought it looked like my other tube had fluid in but wasn’t sure (apparently tubes can cross over). Went ahead and the ivf failed. At the follow up I had another scan and the fluid was def in my other tube and they said it was probably caused by the ivf drugs like you.

I then had the choice to continue with the next ivf but would have a lower chance due to the fluid and it can be damaging to any possible embryo.

It’s really tough as it’s another delay and waiting which is beyond frustrating. Big hugs and hope it gets sorted soon xxx 😘😘

Hi Star9 sorry to here you’ve had a similar annoyance! This has been a complete curveball to be as no one saw anything like this happening after tests! I suppose the good thing is they know how to sort it out. Have you decided to have them removed before a further cycle? What has your consultant since suggested? To be honest I haven’t even bee offered a choice - he just said best to remove any risk by Removing it, which I’ll admit feels drastic Xxx

Yes it’s pants. I had my first laparoscopy op in august last yr to clip my right tube, then had my first cycle in Oct/nov. So between End of August and early November my left tube suddenly had liquid too. Apparently it can just happen with the drugs.

I then had my left one clipped in February this year (I did pay private as was told it would be a year to wait on the nhs!). I am now on the second week of my 2ww of my second cycle.

So yeah I feel your pain as it is so frustrating, especially when it’s unexpected. But then if it is there it is best it is sorted to give you the best possible chance. To me it seemed better to wait and have the op again to give me a better chance. No point going in with half a chance, when they aren’t high odds anyway.

Mine were just clipped too, not removed. Either way tho I guess it’s the same. I did feel like you in that it’s drastic, but just think of your end goal and the best way to get you there xxxx 😘😘😘

Good luck with everything - hope it all goes smoothly for you from here 😘 I’m going to go for the removal of the affected tube I think, as atleast then I know it’s been fully dealt with... I’ve read lots of people choose to go on with the transfer with it, but I think that would just be one more thing going against the already temperamental process, as you pointed out! 😘 egg collection this Friday, so atleast I can have a g&T this summer while I wait for my body to recover! 💆🏻‍♀️😘😂 xxx

Miss_Worrier omg that is bizarre. I'm so sorry to hear. I know it doesn't really help but one of my tubes are blocked. And the doctor reassured me that the other tube would pick up any eggs I released and wouldn't halve my chances (although my real problem is endometriosis so it doesn't really matter). And you surely do not need them for IVF. I do agree that it is stressful going through an extra procedure, but at least it shouldn't affect the outcome.

I also had my scan today (I might have seen you in the clinic?) I have OHSS so it's more likely that I will be going for fet which is very annoying and frustrating. But giving my body (our bodies) a rest doesn't sound too bad. I can't for sure say what we will end up with but hang in there and do not lose hope! Big hugs for you xxx

Hi Hun, thank you - I know, I was not expecting that! They reckon it may be a touch of endometrial tissue that’s made it a tad narrower and the liquid has Inflamed it... so focussed on follicles and response I had even prepared myself for anything else! 😢 yes I was in there this morning, at about 9.30isj?! You’re right, I think we just have to take on board that there’s bound to be a few hiccups on the road, and these are the things we have to move through. Hope your OHSS isn’t causing too much of a burden on you?!!! xxx

Hi Miss_Worrier. I was so sorry to read this, but as you probably know, I've been in the fertility game for many years, and affected tubes are best got rid of or clipped. Fluid leaking back into the womb can prevent a developing embryo from implanting, which is a nightmare thought on its own. Just rest assured that the embryos that are created now, will be stored quite safely waiting to be returned back to where they belong. Hope you don't have to wait too long to be sorted. Thanks very much DianeArnold that’s really helpful. As I right I’m thinking their take on it is tubes are needed for IVF, so best to remove the risk completely? There’s been no offer of draining or clipping - just his preference to remove for any future rounds xxx

Hi. You definitely don't need tubes for IVF. Once removed though, you couldn't get pregnant naturally. Draining is not usually an option as the fluid tends to collect again. Hope that helps. Diane

Hi lovely, didn’t want to read and run. I haven’t been in the situation you’re in, however we did our first round in April and due to risk of OHSS we were told we’d need to freeze all (they told us at my day 8 scan). I was devastated initially, however after egg collection I definitely realised it was for the best. My body needed to recover and emotionally it was a lot more draining than I ever could have imagined...

A month later and I’m starting our fet on my next cycle. It was definitely worth the wait.

Hi Love, not quite the same because my hydro were picked up early in our journey, I'm having both tubes clipped / removed in July and we'll hopefully start ivf in October. But I really feel for you, it wasn't on my radar either and felt like being hit with a sledge hammer. It's tough to come to terms with, and even when I think I've got it under control I'll have a few days when I'm just so sad 😔 Try to focus on the positive, that you'll hopefully have some lovely frosties waiting to go once the op is done, and there are growing numbers of professionals who feel that FET has a higher chance of success anyway because it can be done with less interference of your natural system. My consultant said that you don't have to wait long at all after the surgery to begin treatment, so hopefully you won't have too long a wait. In the meantime, good luck with the rest of this cycle xxx

Hi KW83 thanks so much for the reassaurance 😘 I had a good chat with the consultant today and that has really put my mind at ease. Even though we feel these decisions are risks or detrimental, they are actually helping increase our chance of success. Plus if it wasn’t this, it could be a risk of cysts, not responding to treatment etc, OHSS, majority of people seem to have some kind of obstacle to get work through first - we’re just sensitive as the path to here is pretty exhausting aren’t we! 😬😂 wishing you all the best for you cycle hun 😘😘😘 xxx
