Acid reflux & nausea

Hi everyone,

I was hoping I could get some tips or advice. I’ve had really bad acid reflux (caused by the progesterone). It’s really bad that I can’t lay down even slightly without vomiting. All day I’m feeling nauseous and all night I have the acid reflux. If I don’t drink anything I don’t get the acid reflux, which I did for a few days and got severely dehydrated. So I’ve tried watery smoothies (suggested by midwife) but I can’t get more than a cup of water in a day and by the evening everything is all out. I’ve lost 3.5 kg over the last few weeks. But I’m not sure what to do? I’ve tried ginger, and salted crisps for the nausea. Although helped initially, now they are causing the acid reflux. I tried gaviscon as per obgyn and that didn’t work. So I’m not sure what to do? I’m absolutely miserable and haven’t been able to go to work either. Any advice?

I had awful reflux when pregnant. GP gave me 300mg so 150mg 2x a day which is 4 a day of the over counter one. It helped a lot till later on but then I had it bad again so he gave me Omeprazole. That 2x and Gavoscon 4x a day kept it at bay or manageable. Lots GP can try hun safe in pregnancy. Ranitadine be the next thing. Oh and stay away from dairy when acid bad as it can make it worse as can anything acidic is vinegar, fruit, tomatoes, onions xx

I feel your pains my love! I came off my meds 3 yrs ago while ttc but since pregnant it’s through the roof. You’re probably doing all the right things already like ginger tea, small regular meals, nothing, creamy, fried, spicy, citrus. Meat is another one that plays havoc. Hope you find some relief. I’ll see how it goes and will probably gor in to my Gp later on x

Hi smang . It’s worth seeing your GP to get checked out that you’re not too dehydrated. Take a urine sample with you so they can test it for something called ketones. Sounds like you may need a combination of things- something to help the nausea (like cyclizine) and something to stop you producing so much acid. The second medication can sometimes take a bit of time to kick in so that’s why anti- sickness tablets are helpful. Agree with reply above that either ranitidine or omeprazole can be used to help with acid reflux. Good luck! Xx

Hi Smang. You poor thing - not nice! I would definitely pop and see your GP who will probably write you up for some Omeprazole/Lansaprozole to relieve it. You probably will just need a low dose first thing in the morning and maybe one at night. Hope you soon get it sorted. Diane

Try love hearts! I've really been suffering with acid reflux but these really do help, more than gaviscon. Just don't overdo them otherwise they become less effective. 4-5 as soon as the reflux hits, no earlier x
