EC today: ICSI instead of IVF

I've had my egg collection today and we got 8 eggs. I was amazed as I have low amh. Turns out that our number is really four (3 immature and one abnormal) but I'm ok with that. We also got a call to say that my husband's sperm had more round cells than they'd like and so they are going to do ICSI instead. He's had a viral infection and apparently that can affect the sperm. He's pretty gutted about it, especially as his sample a few weeks ago was ace. Has anyone else had a late change from IVF to ICSI and had success or good fertilization results? We only had two out of six fertilise last time so not the best starting point. Thanks ash x

We didn’t have a late change but with our first round of ivf we only had one fertilise out of three whereas with our next two rounds they did icsi and we got the expected 2/3rds fertilisation, so I’m all for it as a miracle technique.

We did half and half. 4 out of 7 fertilised with icsi, so more than half. I had more fertilise with IVF but it was our icsi embryos that made the cut! Xx

Great number Ash! We didn't get that option in my last cycle, though I wish we had, as we only retrieved 5 (2 immature, so really 3) but they all failed to fertilise with IVF. I've since been told by a few other ladies that ICSI has a higher success rate that traditional IVF. Good luck for tomorrow xx
