Yep i took ages to heal. You will learn to appreciate your abdominal muscles. Have they put you on Esyma? Or Zoladex to manage the size of your fibroids??

I’ve recently stopped taking Esmya it shrank by 1cm... mine is 4x5cms. I’m wondering how soon after myo I can ttc, I can’t see it being sooner than 6 months ? X

We were told not ttc until after 6 months but at my first post surgery appointment which was like 3 months after surgery, they gave us a go ahead to start ttc.

Yeah that’s the recommendation, I wouldn’t advise before then and you won’t feel up to it. If they go into your womb cavity you will only deliver by c-section - they did this with me. So if and when I do conceive that’s the only way.

My womb cavity was cut into but never told me I might need cs for birth.

Mine grew back and so did my aunts. They don’t always. Mine took a year and hers where almost 2-3 months. I hope yours don’t.

They are monsters isn't it? And there's no definitive answer to why they exist.

Yep it’s too much estrogen. I genuinely think my uterus hates me. Haha

Yes@ oestrogen but even when you avoid what might cause an increase in oestrogen you still get it or it grows back, that's why I call it a monster ☺

Have they told you why you need an open myomectomy? Mine was open and very tough surgery but I recovered pretty quick and well. My surgery lasted over 5 hours, I had blood transfusion and latter developed "paralysis of the intestine or colon can' remember which now" but had to pass ng-tube through my nose to my stomach to remove secretions for almost a week, hence didn't eat for those days. I was just on drips. I spent 12 days at the hospital. But resumed work 4.5 weeks later very fit and felt well except some tiredness when I walk and that was because I was aneamic.

I asked why open myomectomy because if fibroids aren't many and big, they use laparoscopic method which is easy and faster. Though some surgeons prefer the open one because it's easier for them but it's weighty on the patient.

I had decapeptyl injection a month before the surgery and that was all.

He recommended open as he feels he can cut it out neatly, he doesn’t like to mince them up as he put it 🙈. I am nervous about surgery but I just need it gone now ! It’s just a shame it’s taken so long to get to this point xxxx

Well if that's his reason, that okay. You will survive it.

Hi ICSIBaby86,

Best of luck with your open myomectomy. I had mine a year ago and it was the best thing I did. Recovery was long and painful but worth it.

I went private so I got to choose my surgeon. I choose someone who specialises in removing multiple large fibroids and early pregnancy. He knew I wanted to have ivf. I healed very well, my fertility clinic were very impressed with my surgeon’s work on me. However, I do as a result of the surgery have Adenomyosis, which is a condition in which the inner lining of the uterus (the endometrium) breaks through the muscle wall of the uterus.

The fertility clinic said this is not a problem, and that pregnancy is good for this condition.

I was also told that as a precaution I can only have one embryo transferred at a time, as carrying two babies could be risky.

Do remember every case is different, I had 11 large fibroids removed. Plus I’m no spring chicken. So your outcome could be better than mine.

Try not to worry too much, I know this is not an easy thing to do. Hope you get a date soon.

Keep us posted and all the very best x

I’ve read about adenomyosis but wasn’t sure what it was exactly. They think it’s only the one fibroid that I have but it is distorting the cavity of my uterus so they think that’s why embryo implantation has failed the last 3 times. I’m hoping the surgery will give us a fresh shot at ivf. Unfortunately we need ivf as my partner has Azospermia due to being a cf carrier. So we can’t even kee trying in the mean time which is frustrating ! Il be glad when the surgery is over ! I also paid private for our consultations cost me an arm and a leg ! But my surgeon is a specialist in fertility ! He’s put me on his nhs waiting list though which was good because I don’t have to pay for the £5000 for the op ! But it just means i have to wait about 8-12 weeks for surgery ‘ thank you so much for the reply ! Hope you have your happy ending soon ! seen lots of positive stories later so that gives me some hope ! Take care xxxxx

So glad you don’t have to pay. I didn’t have that option. The NHS wouldn’t remove my fibroids. The wait is so annoying, but saving £5000 is a bonus. Your surgeon sounds suitable quilfied 🙌 yay.

It makes sense to have your fibroid removed if it dissorting your cavity. You want to have optimum conditions for your treatment.

I wish you and your other have the best with surgery and fertility treatment.

Hi,

I had my fibroids removed nearly 4 years ago.

Due to my job I had 4 months off work.

I’ve just done my 2nd cycle of Ivf and I’m now pregnant 7 weeks 4 days.

My Ivf consultant did not recommend putting 2 embryos back in.

But I fought to have 2 put back due to my 1st unsuccessful round.
