Scar tissue, myomectomy & pregnancy

I met my consultant today for the first time. I’m now 15+3 weeks pregnant. Because of my fibroid removal last year (open myo) I have to have a planned csection for 39 weeks ! All being well ! Today at my scan baby looked healthy and lovely. He mentioned babies placenta was situated where my scar tissue is. He said I may have to have the placenta surgically removed as it might get stuck to the scar tissue. It’s now worried me that will there be a problem as the baby grows due to my scar tissue? I thought placenta was supposed to move with the baby etc. He didn’t mention anything worrying, he said my womb looked healthy and couldn’t see any sign of problems today. However I’m nervous about further along? As anyone else experienced anything similar xxx

My situation is different to yours. I had 3 surgeries to treat my endometriosis within 13 months ( it’s a miracle I managed to fall & have a successful pregnancy) I had scar tissue all over my uterus ligaments so I would have cramps each time my baby had a growth spurt & panicked me everytime. I know it’s not the same but babies are definitely born survivors so I would imagine your baby will get what he or she needs. Anytime I was ill I worried & midwife reassured me baby would take all they needed & be fine! Don’t know if that helps reassure you. I’m sure the medics will keep a close eye on you ( they tend to air on the side of caution & they know how wanted your baby is)

Thank you so much for the reassurance! He only mentioned it in passing, like oh you may need your placenta surgically removed. I wish he’d never mentioned it 🙈 i was worried about the function of the placenta being compromised. I’ve just read about placenta accretia but as I’ve got a planned csection I guess I won’t have to worry about birthing the placenta anyway ! Thank you and congratulations to you xxxxxx

Aww men I don’t suspect he meant to worry you but really should’ve reassured you obviously it would worry you ☹️ You could always mention it to your midwife who will put you at ease they know all about babies 👌

My placenta was anterior which meant I didn’t feel her moving until much later which worried me!

Us mummies worry before the baby even arrives & will forever worry about our munchkins 🤣

Ahh 15 weeks already 🥰 he probably didn’t mean to worry you, it must be something he has seen a few times to have said it so nonchalantly. Just a heads up if you’re planning to breastfeed (or not), if you are it is worth getting some little 1ml syringes off your midwife to express some colostrum antenatally from 37 weeks I think it is, as c section can make it take a bit longer for your milk to come in (took about four days for me). I know that’s ages off yet but something to bear in mind. You can also go to breastfeeding support groups before your section for help and advice about positioning to ease the pain on your wound. My section was an emergency one but I definitely could have used some more help!

My midwife had me up and in the shower 6 hours after my section, it was the best thing ever as I felt human again and got rid of the fear of moving and being in pain xxxx

Aww that’s for the advice ! Definitely plan on breastfeeding I did with my first little boy, I breastfed for 5 months absolutely loved it. I had a natural birth with him and he latched on straight away ! I was wondering about having a csection and how it would effect my ability to breastfeed. Going to get an electric pump as well ! Thank you xxx

Ahh that’s brilliant, I never felt that strongly about breastfeeding until he was born but knew that I wanted to try. It’s so amazing the benefits for mum and baby, plus the bond it creates 😍 he’s one next week and we are still going!

I was told not to pump for the first six weeks until your supply is established but I had to in the end as he wasn’t gaining weight so had to pump and top up. Turned out he had a whopping tongue tie which was causing the weight issues and horrendous reflux but once that was snipped at nine weeks things improved massively. I started with a tommee tippee electric which worked well but annoying as the tube kept pinging off the bottle a lot. Then I got a medala swing maxi (double pump) which was brilliant. I also got a haakaa (not sure if you’ve seen them, like a silicone one piece that suctions on to one boob while you feed from the other) great for catching your let down that might otherwise just go into a muslin/down your nighty/on your bed!

Yeah I’m very disappointed I wasn’t told about how a section could affect breastfeeding. I also had a large blood loss (800ml) and no one told me that this would make it harder to feed too! So now I try and spread the word to as many mummies to be as I can, informed is best and all that. Looking forward to more updates from you as you get further along 🥰🥰🥰
