BMI too high?

Hi All,

My bmi is 29.5, and with one failed round of icsi in January, we are attempting our second round in July. During our follow up meeting with the consultant, he advised that it may help our chances if my bmi was reduced.

So.... have any of you ladies lost weight for ivf, if so which plans did you follow? Did you exercise? And how realistic is a good weight loss in three months?

Need all the help and advice I can get. xx

My bmi was 29.9 whilst going through NHS treatment, so right on cut off.

Unfortunately I was unsuccessful, and moved to private with DE. Jan I gave up drink, started weight watchers and power walking with my dogs. I started walking to work and on average was doing approx 6km walking a day. By the time of my transfer (23rd Feb) I'd lost stone and a half! I hadn't bern really strict, but weight watchers seems to be based round low sugar, and I found the mobile app amazing, even has a barcode scanner so spent hours doing my food shop! lol! I'm not a gym girl and figured that dogs need walking anyway so may as well use it as my exercise. I also think it helped with thickening my lining as have issues with thin lining but by getting the blood pumping helped. The transfer was successful and got my bfp! But sadly miscarried this week. I firmly believe losing the weight and excercise helped loads, and I'm now back on it to lose another stone before my next go. Think my bmi is 27.4 now but want to get it to 25. I think if you put your mind to it you could lose 1 1/2 - 2 stone in 3 months. I tried slimming world but doesn't work for me. I have a theory that if your a pair shape figure weight watchers is the diet for you! All my mates who are pears all do weight watchers 😂 good luck and well done and wanting to lose some weight, it will make you feel loads better, which in turn is key for mental health and positivity when going through ivf xx

I did Cambridge diet before my nhs go but you don’t have much to loose so I would suggest WW or SW. just fir the record had ivf in cyprus and there is no limit on bmi there mine was 30 and it worked 😁

Be careful losing to much weight. I've been told by my clinic that my weight loss has had a negative impact on my ovaries so they aren't responding as thy should xxx healthy diet is more important then weight loss xxx

I did slimming world and lost a considerable amount of weight. I've seen people lose loads in 3 months. Remember if you lost 2lbs per week which is easily achievable then you'd lose about 2 stone in 3 months. But I'd agree with Hidden that you probably shouldn't go crazy because extreme weight loss can have a profound effect on your body. I got to bmi of 27 for our treatment and it was fine. Even though they say you should get your bmi to 25 I read somewhere that actually anywhere between 25 and 27 is ideal. Good luck, I really liked slimming world I thought it was quite easy xxx

Weight Watchers works. You could loose 20lbs gently in 3months. It’s a well balanced plan. Good luck.
