Bleeding at 6 weeks 3 days

First time IVF and really lucky it’s worked. Had first scan on Thursday and all seemed well healthy heartbeat and size as expected.

However, last night I started bleeding, initially bright red and this morning dark brown. Called the hospital and they said to come in if it gets heavy and clotting, but if it’s a miscarriage they can’t do anything to stop it.

The bleeding has calmed down but worried it may be a miscarriage or if it’s just implantation bleeding 😐.

Any experience of this on here am I worrying for nothing?

Thanks Bonita

Hi Bonita928. Definitely not implantation bleed because baby is growing! This sometimes happens as the placenta starts to develop, then settles down again. Good that it is now brown, which is old blood. Rest when you can and hopefully all will be well. Thinking of you. Diane

My friend had bleeding at 6w and all was fine. Interestingley she was told it was implantation making its way out. Who knows! But she’s now 14 weeks and all is good xxx

Exactly the same happened to me this week, the nurse at the clinic wasn’t concerned and said unless it was heavy and continued just to take it easy and wait til my scan next week. I am only just 6 weeks so haven’t had one yet. It’s terrifying I know but I have been out at ease by her and also a lot of ladies on here as they have experienced it to. It sounds quite common so fingers crossed x

Hi, I’m in a similar boat. I’m 6+2 today but I have had brown blood/discharge for a week now. I had a scan on Tuesday and all was fine although very early so couldn’t see a heartbeat. I’ve got another this Tuesday to check for heartbeat but I’m not sure what the blood is about. The clinic didn’t seem too fussed they said to contact if it was bright red and clotting. I’m on pessaries so I’m guessing it could have something to do with that.

Have they booked you in for another scan with the EPU? If all is okay on Tuesday 🤞🏼 That’s what I’m expecting! All the best!! X

Hey, I had a scan on Thursday and got to hear the heartbeat but didn’t start bleeding until Friday. Hospital said the same to me, to call back if it go heavy with clotting. They did book me in for a scan tomorrow so hoping all is ok.

Good luck with your scan, keep us posted on how it goes.

As long as it turned brown after 8-12 hours that's good news, I had a lot of brown clotting and went into EPU and was told it's old blood making it's way out.

Good luck sweetie

Hey Bonita,

I have had a similar thing recently. Started bleeding red two days after my scan and that lasted for a night. Then have been losing brown blood ever since (not heavy). I have been for two scans and all show that baby is doing well and growing. There is a small bleed next to the baby which we are hoping won’t get any bigger. Apparently it’s very common, the sac holding the baby gets bigger and needs to take more of our blood vessels for nutrients etc. This can cause some bleeding in the uterus.

I know it’s extremely scary, I’m petrified every time I wipe, but try and have faith that your baby is doing wonderful and is just growing as he or she should!!!

Sending lots of love. Are you having another scan because of it? The epau gave me a scan which was reassuring and have offered me another in a weeks time to see how the bleed is. I would recommend going for some peace of mind xxx
