Bleeding at 5 weeks 6 days after double embryo transfer

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some much needed reassurance, but don’t want false hope if you see what I mean. I’m 5 weeks 6 days today after a double fresh embryo transfer using donor eggs and yesterday went to the loo and felt a bit wet and found blood on my liner. I’m absolutely gutted and thinking the worst, especially as I don’t think I ‘feel’ pregnant anymore. My boobs had been really full and sensitive for a few weeks, but I’m sure that’s gone. I’m not bleeding as such still, but blood when I wipe each time I pee. I called my clinic and got to keep taking meds until planned viability scan on 23rd April, but they’re phoning me again today to check in and could review things if any changes. I just feel I need to know now. The nurse did say the progesterone pessaries may have grazed my vagina or cervix, so have had to switch to taking them rectally. I had a miscarriage at this stage that went on for a couple of weeks in 2018 and can’t help but feel it’s the same thing again. I feel lucky to have got the positive pregnancy test and really thought this time would work for us. I feel heartbroken and can’t stop crying and of course can’t help but google 🤦‍♀️X

Hi Carrie, spotting/bleeding doesn't mean it's over. I had red blood with clots and cramping at 5 weeks but when I got to my 6 week scan there was a heartbeat and I'm now 11 weeks. I think bleeding in early pregnancy is common, I've read loads of stories on here similar to mine. I know you won't be able to relax until your scan but definitely don't count yourself out yet.

If you continue to bleed ask your clinic about upping your progesterone. That's what my clinic did but I was bleeding frequently xx

Thanks for getting back to me, that’s great that you had good news and are now 11 weeks! Congratulations. That’s a good idea about the progesterone, I’ll ask when the clinic calls me today. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy! Xx

Yes good idea, worth asking about.

Thanks, wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy too. Hope this worry goes away quickly for you xx

Thanks. I asked about increasing the progesterone and nurse said they wouldn’t recommend now as may aggravate further. Feel better that I asked though xx

Hi CarrieK

Do you have an option for a private scan? I had a private scan at 6w 1 day to help put my mind to rest as I didn’t want to wait the extra 8 days till my clinic scan. I personally haven’t had any bleeding but my symptoms have been fluctuating and have only had very mild nausea lasting minutes so I wouldn’t worry too much on the symptoms front as they will come and go from what I have read in early pregnancy.

Fingers crossed all works out well for you and you have a healthy pregnancy 🤞

Hi thanks for getting back to me, the bleeding has now stopped and I’ve spoken to my clinic again. I’d thought of an early scan, but don’t think that would really settle my mind as I had 2 early scans last time that I went in to miscarry, so I worry that whatever they say, I still wouldn’t believe it or be able to relax. I’m coming to idea it’s just a waiting game...good luck to you too xx

Thank you, know all of this will be worth it at the end of the journey but it’s definitely a rollercoaster.

My surrogate had exactly this had a double frozen transfere & bees at 5 weeks so we booked in for HCG blood test (which come back at 7128 ....& then heaven bleed 5 weeks 3 days which had clots and everything you’d associate with a Misscarriage ,2nd HCG 1 day after heavy bleed (it’s dropped to 6800) so went for vaginal scan to still see a yolk sac and very small Fetal pole (no heart beat yet) waiting for our 7 weeks 1 day scan next Thursday to try find heart heart 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼So don’t count yourself out yet sending lots of love and 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Hi Carrie, try not to worry just yet. I had massive bleeds with my first on three occasions with clots and huge blood lost and all was well. With my second child via donor this time I also bled continuously from 5-7 weeks and he’s now 3-months old. Can be the pesseries ( I also switched to taking them anally), can also be a sensitive cervix which can bleed due to hormones plus could be low progesterone or an estrogen/progesterone imbalance. I’m sure you’ll be fine. An early pregnancy scan reassured me xx

Thanks, that sounds reassuring. My bleeding stopped completely by yesterday. I’m coming round to thinking it was maybe from the pessaries, it’s just so scary when you see it though and your mind automatically goes to the worst case scenario. I know it’s early days, but feeling more positive that it can be okay. Congratulations with you little one xx

Hi, it’s been quite the journey, the bleeding settled. We were told at 7 week clinic scan it was twins, which we were over the moon about, both had heartbeats and measured spot on. A small area of bleed could be seen still to come away, but no where near the babies and I did have another bleed that week. Went for a private scan at 10 weeks and both still perfect. I then went for my NHS dating scan at 13 weeks, to be told twin one had no heartbeat and had stopped growing at 12+1. I couldn’t help but think the worst for twin 2 and thought it was a matter of time. But fast forward and I’m now 24+3 with a healthy, strong boy. I don’t think the bleeding had anything to do with losing twin 1 as it was weeks after the bleeds that we lost that little one. I hope you get on okay and it works out well for you, let me know how it goes, I’ve got everything crossed xx

Good to know CarrieK!

Unfortunately my beta hcg dropped drastically. Another m/c. 😔 this one was fresh embryo transfer after one missed miscarriage and chemical pregnancy .
