I have just booked my first round of ivf and am starting down regulation at the end of March š¬. We are self funding and using access fertility refund programme. When I called the clinic the nurse advised we havnt had our hiv, hep c and hep b blood tests done and they need to be done before starting stims. She said the clinic could do them for Ā£180 for me and Ā£180 for my partner or try my doctors surgery. Has anyone had any luck getting these on the NHS?

My GP did them for me, just get a print out from your clinic of the exact bloods as they can easily order the wrong ones if you arenāt very specific xx
Yes! We did š we got all of them done on NHS but I really don't know if this is the norm. I had a miscarriage last September and went back to the same gp who dealt with that. I kind of hoped she would feel sorry for me! She did not hesitate to get them done there for me. I had to get fsh etc done elsewhere and I managed to get them on a bit of a fluke. I think some GPs can be awkward but if you have a nice one I'm sure they'll sort it for you. Good luck xx
I know in the grand scheme of things another Ā£400 doesn't sound too much but it just seems like every time we think we've paid for everything something else crops up. Unfortunately we weren't entitled to any NHS funded Ivf so every penny really does count. Thank you xx
My husband got the GP to do them as he is a charmer!
As another alternative to consider, I contacted the NHS giving blood people as Iām a regular blood donor and all but one test is done on your blood when you donate blood, so they are willing to write you a letter confirming if your tests were clear. I then was meant to pay the clinic for the final test that the blood donation people donāt do but I was lucky and the clinic agreed to do it for free because they were running late that day and felt bad for making me wait ages.
It took a little while as I seem to remember that I had to put my request in writing. I think I faxed it to them in the end, using the work fax, but Iām struggling to remember as it was a couple of years back.
Got mine done on the NHS but a word of warning: my clinic expected proof that they were carried out by ācertifiedā labs. I got a letter from my GP stating the labs where they had been carried out (as my blood results just came on plain paper, not headed) and then looked the labs up on line to get proof of their certification which was enough for my clinic xxx
We're in the process of deciding when to start IVF and my GP has told me she is happy to arrange for me to have my bloods done by the NHS - not a problem at all.
Hi Jm82, I recently went to my doctors and I got all my tests blood tests and STD tests done on the NHS. I like you was nevous that the doctor would say no because Iām self funding.
Do have all your required tests down on papaer because it is easy to miss one or have the wrong ones done.
I requested these tests exactly a month ago so go for it and ask.
Every penny counts. It certainly does to me as Iām a single woman doing ivf with donor sperm, which I purchased from a sperm bank.
Thank you, i was scared to ask as its felt like the gp wasn't interested at all as we are not entitled to any funding at all. I called this morning and the receptionist said the nurse would call me back but so far she hasn't so will have to chase again tomorrow! It's true every penny does count, just when you think it's all paid something else comes up!
Good luvk with with your treatment, wishing you all the luck in the world xx
