Anyone had success with iui with unexplained infertility ?
IUI?: Anyone had success with iui with... - Fertility Network UK
IUI?
I’ve not gone through iui myself but I’ve read quite a few success stories, I’m unexplained and had a cycle of IVF as we don’t get funding for iui where we are, I wish I’d gone ahead with iui even if we self funded before the ivf, when we see our consultant in a few weeks I’ll be making sure to let them know I’d rather try iui before we go through IVF again, good luck xx
I assume the first ivf didn’t work? Do you know why?xx
Yeah it didn’t work, will hopefully find out when we see the consultant in 3 weeks time 🤞🤞
assisted conception is never easy whichever path you take but I didn’t have a good experience with our first IVF.
I didn’t learn until our IVF failed that unexplained infertility doesn’t mean there’s nothing wrong, something is, they just don’t know what.
I’m working with a nutritionist as it’s likely I have hormone imbalances that I want to sort as naturally as possible and hopefully become pregnant naturally, or at least improve my hormone levels and egg quality with diet as best I can to give us the best chance of IVF working.
If we can’t get pregnant naturally I still want to do iui first, you’re still going to have an agonising 2ww to find out if it’s worked, but the treatment is much less invasive and at least is a bit more natural, that’s just my personal feelings but I’ve read success stories where iui has worked, iui hasn’t worked but ivf has, neither has worked but then achieved a natural pregnancy, everyone’s different there’s no way of knowing what will work until you try it, I’m in Scotland and my clinic’s view on iui is that it’s less successful than IVF so they only give you IVF but you can pay for iui so my view is they wouldn’t offer it at all if it didn’t work.
My advice would be to make sure you’re fully informed of all your options and choose what feels right for you, not just what the statistics tell you
Xx
We had unexplained and NHS where we are only funds IVF not IUI for unexplained. I don’t think the evidence regarding IUI in cases of unexplained is compelling enough. The NICE guidelines outline some of the national recommendations and this Is one of them.
I really struggled with it at first thinking why jump straight to something so invasive. Looking back, I’m glad we did as it saved us a lot of heartache with failed IUI cycles. now after 2 rounds of IVF we know what the problem is and IUI wouldn’t have solved it. But you never know really. IVF is also investigative. At the end of the day, you do have to go with your gut and what feels right.
Also on the flip side, I have a friend who did IVF twice and failed. She had DOR I believe and her partner low sperm quality. Years later she remarried. New partner also had some sperm issues, but they went through IUI first and got pregnant so who knows. There’s no explanation for any of this
Hello Sarah! You seem like a strong woman. You are facing your problems very practically I give you that. Stay the same. In my opinion too IUI would have been a better option before IVF. But now that your IVF has failed once, maybe you need to rethink this. Consult your doc if IUI is the right choice at all now. You should not ignore all this. I am pretty sure I don't need to say this. I hope you find a solution. That too as soon as possible. Good luck with your appointment. Wishing you the best. Stay positive. P.S. I need some good wills too. I am going to have my IVF next week. Fingers crossed.
