EC without sedation but local block

Hello Ladies, I requested an EC without sedation but only with a local block. I was not comfortable with medication that impact my brain. I am quite strong usually and not too emotional (for exemple didn't felt much during the endometrial scratch). I have seen many other clinic that would use local block as regular protocol. Any previous experiences? Many thanks.

Do you mean a local anaesthetic? I had conscious sedation and although I was assured I would most likely drift off or at the very least feel drunk (without the side effects) I didn’t do or feel either. I was lucid and “with it” xx

I think I have had what you describe for two EC at an NHS clinic. I felt a little pain but it was bearable. Whatever they gave me I was fully awake and conscious but I did feel really relaxed and a bit spaced out. So I could feel what was happening but I didn’t care if that makes any sense? x

Thanks for your replies. I went through EC today only with local anaesthetic. The doctor tried very hard to discourage me to go down that road, saying that I had to collaborate and that if I move a bit the all operation would need to be cancelled but for me it worked like a charm. I was completely aware and could follow the collection in real time and understood the procedure, I couldn't feel much and it was totally bearable. I am now directly up to speed and do not need to worry about not cooking and not driving. For me, it was the right choice. I am pleased that there is at least one thing that my body can do right! The eggs are of poor quality though so the smooth EC process was probably the last good news for this cycle.

As a side note, I only had 3 follicules so it went very quickly. For women with many follicules this might be a bit of a long and hence painfuller procedure.

I’m glad you made the right decision for you. I hope your eggs fertilise now and that one of them is your bfp 🤞 xx
